Carlos Gonzalez, Photographer

->> Looking for a little help.
When I try to open a 5d MKII RAW file from Photo Mechanic in Photoshop by using (command “E”)
I get a prompt saying “Photoshop does not recognize this type of file”

I have a MAC, Photo Mechanic 4.6.1 and PS4

What do I need to do? Thanks, cg

->> Carlos,
What version of Photoshop do you have?

Only CS4 will open the RAW files from the Canon 5D Mark2.

You can convert the RAW files to DNG files with Adobe's free converter.

http://www.adobe.com/products/dng/

The older versions of Photoshop can read the DNG files and convert them to JPGs.

->> When you open the CR2 file in CS4 and the prompt shows up with the sliders, etc...its at the top and should say something like "Camera raw 5.2 - Canon EOS-5D Mark II"

->> Photoshop Menu>Preferences>Camera Raw Preferences will tell you the current build you are running.

Top Menus>Help>Check for Updates should get you updated and running on the the latest build.

All is well..

->> You will get cleaner files using Capture One by phase one... I did a head to head of the same .cr2 file from a MK II using lightroom, aperture, Adobe Raw and C1... C1 came out WAY ahead of the rest. Best color, noise and such.
I think you can download a demo for 30 days if you want to try it.
