QANDA is great! We should all use it more!

->> http://www.sportsshooter.com/qanda.html You've got to be logged in to make that link go to the right place, but this is one of the greatest features of Sportsshooter.
Whenever I've gotten really stuck with a gear or hardware/software issue, I try Q and A before anything else--even posting to the message board. Then I take my dog outside for about 10 minutes or so. The answer to whatever was vexing me is usually there within the first 10 minutes. But it is a give to get. Go ahead, log in, and update your profile as to what sorts of gear you are using, and can give answers to.
This alone is well worth the yearly membership fees. Thanks to everyone who has pinged me back with tips and answers so quickly! |

->> Agreed...
Sports Shooter Q&A saved me about $500 in Nikon fees if I'd have to send my 70-200 2.8 VR in... Here all it was, was a slightly bent aperture switch tab, preventing the blades from closing... As suggested by a reply from Sports Shooter Q&A...
Well worth the money!!! |

| ->> Eric, yes, that was it exactly! Why Windows doesn't have a option to do this (select mirrored or flow displays) from the Screen Setup dialogue box is baffling! |

->> I do like the Q&A in that it usually gets you an answer quickly. However, it's a shame that it's done via email and not some online method where everyone can benefit from the answers.
I'd like to see the Q&A become a member's-only-wiki of some sort for the Q&A types of questions.
You could also have answers to things in there like:
How do a get a "pass" to a NFL game, it would really help my career?
Do you guys have business insurance? What company do you recommend?
Got any suggestions for a website company?
How do I join NPS?
Anytime someone posted such a question, you just need to write "see the wiki" and then the thread can be done.
In all seriousness, another forum I am a member of has an exhaustive wiki with tons and tons and tons of great info. Here's a sample of the C topics:
* C-41
* Cancellation
* Canon 1D Mark III mini-review
* Canon Error Codes
* Canon Professional Services (CPS)
* Celebrity Wedding
* CF Card Recovery
* CF Cards
* Chart of Accounts
* Chimping
* Circle of Confusion
* CMYK
* Color Calibration and Work Flow
* Copyright
* CPS
* Credit Card Companies |

->> It's a great avenue to funnel questions about gear to those ss.com members that have indicated they have an interest in specific gear.
I know a lot of people would rather pose these gear-related questions on the message board, but the Equipment Q & A is a great way to get answers from members who have the specific info you need ... and not get bogged down with the chatter-clutter-nonsense that can take down an earnest call for help on the message board.
For those of us that have iPhones or other devices that receive email immediately, you can probably reach out quicker to people for the info rather than wait for someone to go to the site and read a message board topic...

->> ??
You can get a lot more identifiable information from a SS message board post than the typical email from "chuck@sportsphotoguy.com."
I do see Bert's perspective about sifting through the clutter. Ask a computer question on the message boards here and it's like the Apple commercial of a decade or more ago where the presenter has a PC problem and the audience starts shouting out wildly different "solutions" to try. |

->> I agree the Q and A is a great function however I have to second what others are saying about to be complete it needs a way for the solutions to be made available. Sometimes people take the time to post the answer on the message board or email back out via the Q and A but often I will go back through old emails and wonder how an issue was resolved.
Any chance of a page, along the lines of the message board design, where people could go and give a few details of the answer to their query, maybe via a form (Problem / Solution / name / date)?
If it had its own search function it could potentially offer immediate answers and would filter out all the other irrelevant discussions for those who currently search past threads first. Such a page would also allow those with a problem to access answers if the question, while relevant to their setup has been asked via a different system as sometimes currently happens.
Yes, there will always be some who never publicise the solution but as it would be a resource for all members I think most will acknowledge their responsibility to give aswell as take. Initially it would be pretty empty but over time my guess is it could become a very useful resource. |

Now...for bonus points: Anyone got tips for adding the Nintendo Wii to the mix of wireless devices on a secure network? |

->> Jack,
It's easy we did it at my parents house for their wii. Just go into settings and it should guide you through the process. Same goes for any console. |

->> I've used the Q and A a few times recently and its provided exactly the information I needed. My only problem is getting around to thanking everyone who responded - I usually get to the first five or ten but sometimes I get 30 or 40+ responses and forget to revisit the emails and thank everyone so... if you answered my recent questions; thank you! :-)
