LA Rental Studio?
Jon Blacker, Photographer
Toronto | ON | Canada | Posted: 11:02 PM on 06.04.09
->> I'm going to be in LA all next week doing a series of location portraits, but 'the people' of one of my subjects may require that we shoot in a studio instead.

Any local recommendations for a studio space that I can rent for a couple of hours late afternoon/early evening on short notice?

I will have all of my own gear required for the shoot including lights & seamless; If I need to do this, I'll only need the space.

Ian, I'll be all over the place, but will largely be central to West Hollywood.

The owner is a nice former Italian model Elena Vannucci. She is also an amazing chef and has a restaurant next door and they do the catering. Tell her I send you.

Any studio that you may rent do call ahead of time. YOu dont want to do the " short notice" thing in LA and find out that two other photographers booked it before you.
I would find out when you are shooting this person and get a firm grip on the day. I will be happy to give you some assistants names too.
Good luck

->> One more thing, also make sure where is your subject located or staying at. And if he/she is willing to travel to were the studio is. Many folks prefer been photographed near their domain. SO you may book a studio in Venice but they will prefer one near Burbank, Studio City, Westwood or downtown LA. You dont want to be stuck with pricey studio rental fees.

So make sure that your subject is open and willing to travel to any location in the LA area. DOnt book anything until subject agrees with your wishes.

YOu can also let your client pay for the studio directly so it doesnt come out of your pocket right away. I usually get 50% upfront payments so I am not stuck with 5-7k on expenses. Have them cut you a check right away before you fly to LA.
