->> Wow.
Under qualifications the second person says, "For several years I have owned my camera."
I should walk across the street to EnergySolutions Arena and tell Jerry Sloan that for several years I have owned my own basketball. Maybe he'll put me on the team. (I don't actually own a basketball. We'll just work that detail out later.) |

->> At some point we have to look BEYOND the people who own cameras and look at the companies that are willing to use these people. It's too easy to heap disdain on a stay at home mom or a 'team dad' who is willing to give away photos for credit. At some point you have to swing the hammer in the other direction and start smacking the publications who are willing to chance their integrity (just had some puke come up) on someone with zero professional standing or training OR concern for either.
EVERYONE wants to get published, everyone wants to be the rock star on stage, hell LOTS of housewives want to be on the brass pole. Fortunately most strip bar owners value their customers I can't say the same thing about the owners of more and more of these papers. |

->> Eric,
With the way things are going now with the newspaper industries, those companies don't care where they get their art from. As long as they get it--for nothing--that's all that matters. The fact is that they are saving money.
Another example is having reporters shooting photos. Why pay two people to go to an assignment when you can give the reporter a camera and have them do both jobs.???
Some companies just don't value nice photos. It is the nature of the business. |

->> Rob,
Or worse, demand that photographers write stories to go with what they shoot, as many Gannett papers now do. The result is stories like the one in the Lancaster (Ohio) Eagle-Gazette, which featured nice lacrosse photos with a story headlined "Field of hockey dreams." |

->> Joe I doubt it. 2 years ago I tried doing an exchange of photos for 1/4 page display ads. This would have been a recurring 'sports corner' piece where the paper would feature a youth team complete with write-up. The editors loved the idea, the ad department, not so much.
Rob I get it, I really do. I can almost understand the writers shooting some of their own art for the piece that they are writing. After all if they were to REALLY mess something up they would be out of a job, suspended, look like asses in front of their 'peers'. When one of these volunteers fouls up, what is the paper going to do? Fire them? What she can't be a house wife anymore because she went a little crazy in PS? |

Apparently you haven't been to some of the clubs I have been. |

She wears a Dolly Parton wig and bifocals. |

->> I didn't think "Lulu" was that bad!
Did anyone else notice that the kid in the story likes to shoot action with a camera that probably has a 2 second shutter release lag? |
