Rainouts and game rates?

->> First time I have come across this since I tend to shoot more indoors or sports where rain is not going to cancel a game. Today is a bit different though. I am shooting the inaugural home opener for a new Frontier League team in the area and foolishly, never thought to discuss what happens regarding my fees in the event of a rainout.
While I suspect tonight's game will be played, I have to be at the park by 4pm for a 7:05pm start since there'll be quite a bit of ceremony before the game as its the first at this brand new park. In the event it rains out and I've spent 4-5hrs there, would I basically forfeit my time and fees since no game was played. For what its worth, I am shooting as the team photographer this season and our contract was based on an $x for x games formula.
Thanks all, just wondering how you'd handle it. |

->> The agreement I have is similar with my colleges. We calculate a per game fee, and if they do not inform me of a rain delay prior to my arrival (sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't) they will pay me for expenses. This happens more often with snow cancellations than rain.
I also agree to an hourly rate for things like ceremonies and banquets. That goes on top of the game fee, if any.
But, that was all confirmed at the beginning of the season.
What are your plans for charging for three hour rain delays?
I think you need to talk to your contact and present what you think is reasonable. And then agree to that for the remainder of the term of the agreement.
Personally, for a first time incident, I would eat it and bring it up as a point going forward. My business philosophy is based on a lifetime revenue from the customer. I am not suggesting you let it slide, but rather make an adjustment going forward and it will never happen again.
Of course, your mileage may vary. |

| ->> Richard, that's solid advice, thanks. As I only live 10 mins. from the ballpark, all that is really on the line here is my time (not that I don't value that immensely). I made a commitment to covering them and will honor that and chalk this up to a lesson learned if it does happen. I think professionally addressing this after the game is the best approach....rain or shine. |
