->> I know this seems elementary, but apparently some photographers don't understand some basic rules of etiquette.
When a major play happens that changes the course of a game at the last possible second, DON'T JUMP OVER THE PHOTO WELL WALLS ONTO THE FIELD AND STAND IN FRONT OF OTHER PHOTOGRAPHERS STILL IN THE WELL!
Not only does this RUIN other photographers shots, it is usually off limits (in this case it was, but obviously loosely enforced) and is a good way to ruin access in the future.
Sure we were there for a big play and sure we all wanted to get that shot, but a bit of common sense and common courtesy goes a long ways, especially in this day and age.
Let the HUH? and INAPPROPRIATE fly... |

->> Probably talking about Texas beating Boston College in the longest baseball game in NCAA Division I history--25 innings.. Game started around 6 p.m... ended just before 1 a.m.
The previous NCAA record was 23 innings...
Good game.. I watched most of it on the NCAA live broadcast site.. |

| ->> What usually runs through my head is %#&*&*$ or #%&*#%$@#*$% and sometimes @#$*&%^, but then I remember that I need to be acting in a professional manner (unlike them) and saying such things would be inappropriate. So I usually just bite my tongue and try to think happy thoughts; like hanging them upside down with their camera straps from the ceiling in the photo room until they promise to never, ever, EVER disregard or disrespect their fellow shooters. |

->> I'll never forget the photographer (who shall remain nameless) who had this great line.
At a college football game a play happened on the other side of the field where some photographers were blocked by the goal post standard. One college kid who was blocked stepped into the end zone to get his shot, therefore blocking a few others.
A seasoned veteran turned to him and said "congratulations, you just won an award with that shot." as the kid looked somewhat hopeful the veteran continued, "the f&^% ever other photographer award."
Though I've had this happen many times I'll never forget covering Texas in the College World Series waaay too many years ago. Everyone agreed to stay back for a couple minutes to let everyone shoot the game celebration long. Even the ESPN cameras stayed back. All but one guy who ran out and as the AP editor was going through my film he starts to get excited and says "oh, oh, oh, this looks good." followed by " Oh, man you got screwed. A monthly clip winner gone." |

| ->> Jeff, I feel you on this one. Last summer they jammed all the photogs into a tiny area near the vert ramps at the AST Dew Tour. We weren't thrilled but we had some clear lines of sight so we all agreed to work together to get specific athletes we needed and plenty of coverage for all. Things worked well until the TV guys rolled in and literally set up directly n front of us at which point most of the still shooters just packed up since there were only one or two spots with any decent lines of sight. The TV guys never said a word but believe me, a few of the still guys did. |

| ->> Adam, "bite your tongue?". No way dude! If you don't let the offending ass know they just screwed you they will do it over and over and....well you get it right? There are always accidents, hell, I've mistakenly stepping someone's line of site before at a news assignment. It happens. Especially if you don't know they are there but at sporting events there is a reason there are lines and and rules of where you can go and can't. And there probably always will be the "guy" who just has to screw it top everyone else to get that shot. But if you don't say something to those kinds of shooters they will continue to be clueless they did anything wrong....... |

| ->> Chuck. I should'a added until I can mention it without an obscenity laden tirade. In most of my limited experience I've shared the sideline with one or two college or high school kids who just didn't know better and I've made it a point to "nicely" give them some tips, such as don't screw over everyone else, as others did for me when I was more of a no nothing newbie than I am now. I’ve never encountered the just doesn’t care guy before but being in KC now I’m afraid that will soon change. |

"...For his favourite picture—which captured the jubilation on the Leafs bench as the final buzzer confirmed the team's 1947 Stanley Cup victory—Nat jumped onto the ice before the game was even over to score a unique vantage point. ..." |

| ->> From my standpoint I would appreciate being told that I had screwed other people. Sometimes screwing someone isn't as blatant as jumping the well and is harder for me to recognize. If a young guy messes a photo up for you, it's usually out of ignorance and zeal for the awesome job we have, not disregard. I agree with Adam's approach (as a know nothing newbie) and appreciate the guidance of those who know better. If I screw you, throw the heaviest disposable item in your camera bag at the back of my head :) |
