| ->> Goo-Gone (BTW I'm not talking about using it on the glass, just the barrel) |

| ->> Try a small amount of WD-40 on a soft cloth. Then wipe the surface off with a clean dry cloth. |

| ->> Un-du adhesive remover works great on the outside of lenses & bodies. It's also great for removing labels & tape adhesive... |

->> Tyson, last year my 400/f2.8 was pretty much covered in little rubber specks and I sat down with a bottle of Goo Gone and in about an hour had the lens looking as good as new (and smelling very lemony, too!).
For the lens, I would suggest Pec Pads, Eclipse solution and some ROR solution. I usually use the ROR first, then finish with Eclipse.
Hope you had a good weekend at HPT.
Goood luck. |

->> Thanks Scott, yeah it was pretty intense, that's for sure. John, I'll have to add a bottle of Un-du to the cabinet with the Goo-Gone, I've heard others talk about it for things too.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys! They NHRA regular shooters say when they send their stuff into NPS or CPS for cleaning they always get comments about how nasty their stuff is, and that they should be charged more! I believe it, that stuff is nasty!!! |

| ->> Be careful with the Goo-Gone and WD-40, guys. I've heard stories from the theater side of people trying to remove tape adhesive from lighting boards and actually taking off the silk-screening that was labeling the buttons! |

->> don't you guys just use a filter over your lens for that bit? My time is worth something, so I would rather unscrew and throw away a mediocre filter than spend an hour trying to clean the lens after shooting an event such as this.
Cleaning the body of the lens and camera body is another story obviously...

->> Won't help you clean it, but here's a thought for the future...
When I know I'm heading somewhere with lots of dust, I take along my stormjacket. It works as well with dirt and grime as it does rain. |
