A similar program could probably be done for tethering a Nikon to a computer USB and using Nikon control software without the WT. The whole thing with this Canon software is it bypasses the WFT, which is $700 or more, which can be replaced with a $300 netbook -- but you have to tether USB so the computer has to be within 10-15 feet of the camera making it impractical for many remote situations.
