Please don't trash anybody you don't/didn't care for, but which of these folks THAT YOU HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN in a speaking engagement, have been especially instructional, interesting, had a great attitude?
Thanks! |

->> I know that Kennerly and Laforet are good speakers as is PRM.
And I though I've never heard him speak, given the chance I would not miss Nachtwey.
He's not a Canon person but a Nikon-sponsored speaker, don't miss Joe McNally if he's speaking near you. |

->> I found Gerd Ludwig to be a really interesting and inspiring speaker and an all around cool guy. After speaking and coaching at Eddie Adams, he was crowd surfing WHILE taking pictures at the end-of-workshop party. Classic.
Vincent Laforet, Bruce Davidson James Natchwey and Douglas Kirkland were all very good speakers as well.
Although I haven't seen him speak, after reading "Shooter" I would really like to see David Hume Kennerly speak. The book is filled with really great stories and ideas, and I imagine that he could really inspire and entertain during a speech.

->> I had the chance to see Peter Read Miller. It was interesting, though not what I expected. It was basically a showcase of his work and how he accomplished some of his greatest shots. I guess I was expecting mrs of a teaching talk, and this was definately not a teaching seminar.
I would recommend him to all. Laforet is coming close, a 6 hour round trip drive, and I am on the fence about going. |

Wrong camera company, but he was gracious enough to share his time and stories with participants, even outside of his 'official' class at SSA VI. |

->> Yeah Daniel, I would recommend Dave Black or Rod Mar or Mister Entertainment Roberto Beck.
But if Mr. Shear is talking "Explorers Of Light" then it's Canon's speakers bureau.Canon will send out one of their shooters to your event or class and pay for it. (Or that's how it used to work before they cut the program back.)
Out of the list he mentioned, Peter is as good as it gets in my book. |

->> Among the Explorers of Light I think Sam Abell's presentation was the best I have seen. His presentation is as good as his book at telling the stories behind some of his most famous photos:

->> Even though you asked about the Explorers of Light, I don't think you can have a discussion about good speakers without including Joe McNally. He's a nikon guy for sure, but he's one the most interesting speakers on photography I've ever seen or heard. Many times you'll attend or log on for a speaker expecting to learn something and all you get is a glorified tour of that person's work.
Joe actually teaches, he relates personal experiences that punctuate a point, and there's never been a time I've seen one of his seminars at Photoshop World that I didn't come away with new knowledge and perspective. He's funny as heck, self-effacing, and really smart. Never ever pass on an opportunity to see Joe live if you can help it. It's no wonder he's in such demand on the workshop circuit. |
