->> neat. ive done this before for a wedding. i dont shoot them, but i set one up at a family members wedding last year. I dont really dig the barrage of different crazy fonts in the begining of the piece, nor the music or color grading. these are neat, but you can get really bored really quickly. the good part is you have enough frames (a lot of times you dont have enough frames and are forced to make the frame rate slow) since you do have enough frames try redoing the timelapse with a quicker frame rate. that will make the motion smoother and the piece shorter.
hope that helps.

right now the frames are at .12 sec's.
If I change them then the music won't sync as nicely.
This couple was very edgy, so hence the font and color tone. |

->> Video wise - faster. It just doesnt run fast enough for my tastes. Beyond that its fine, interesting idea. Could always set up a second one so you have another shot to cut to. It runs long, there's nothing wrong with chopping the audio to make it fit because this looked like a very long wedding.
Font looks like its from a Janes Addiction concert poster circa 1991. If thats what the client wants, more power to them.
My big complaint? All of the shooters in the shots (both video and still) blatently stood out as their dress appeared vastly different from the guests.
Every wedding I've assisted on or shot on, I've been in a suit and tie but short sleeved shirts? Rugby shirts? Really? |

I just asked a simple question. How is that a "party ruiner"?
I would think doing some really creative video work but in the process using another artists' intellectual property without permission and (I'm assuming) reselling the combination for a profit to your client...then posting it in a professional forum as a "dig this"...would be more of a party-ruiner.
...but that's just me. |

->> David Harpe - As long as the the music is not being re-sold or being used for promotion, I am within my rights in Canada to use the song for a personal project.
Matt - This was done with photo's.
David Manning - I didn't want it to look like a video, that's why I have it set to what it is. The font and music is my choice as this is not something I did for the client. As for dress, the video guy is not with us and was dressed very poorly. As for myself and 2 assistants we were dressed as I require, button down short sleeve shirts with dress pants. I have never worn a suit and tie to a wedding I have shot.
Phillip - Just simply set up a remote camera with a motor cable & PW. It was triggered by the two cameras I was shooting with that both had PW's on them. That's the downfall with Canon, you can't set up time lapse unless you have a laptop connected.

->> Richard,
Not intentionally criticizing. If short sleeves is what works for you, then go for it. I simply come from a differing opinion, mainly because you and your assistants stood out to me easily in the frames. Granted nowhere as bad as the video guy but to me, you still stood out.
As for your video, I simply don't like the edit. I like a much faster-paced, frantic style. IMO a faster edit would have helped with the music you chose. Perhaps its a stylistic choice, but so far one of the best stop-motion animations I've seen have come from David Bergman and his SEC championship video -> http://vimeo.com/2560651 Well that one and the Toronto Star's bit on global warming, that was amazing.
I see it as a good starting point. |

| ->> I am so glad that someone brought up the issue of proper attire. The short sleeves did not disturb me as much as the whiteness of the shirt. My eye was pulled to it in every frame it appeared. Black on black. Do not reflect light. Ninja photography. |

->> I like the choppy feel to the slide show, it gives a nice edge to it. everyone has different tastes, and that is where the "Art" comes in. one persons stinker is anothers contest winner.
I have used remotes to cover from this angle for many years, not on every wedding, usually those that really restrict the photographers movement, but I never put them into a slide show, thanks for the great idea.
Nice job Richard. |

->> David, no criticism taken, to each their own right!
As for speed of tracks, I just went back and tried it with a faster clip, it does work a lot better. Next time I will definitely speed it up and cut audio. |

->> Hey Richard, interesting results there - nice work!
One thing I'm curious about is just the variations in brightness in some of the images - I'm assuming you had the camera set on manual, would that just be caused by clouds passing by outside do you think?
I'm wondering if it's something a friend here told me about - he uses a 5D to shoot frame by frame animation, but uses adaptors and Nikon lenses because there's a little bit of inconsistency with Canon's EF lenses in how they stop down each time you fire the shutter, which leads (he said) to flickering brightness when they're run together as film, like you have here. With other lenses you can manually stop them down, instead of letting the camera open & close the iris each time.
Just curious whether you'd found that to be an issue yourself,

->> Richard,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you connect a Pocketwizard Multimax and set it up to take photos on a regular interval? I assisted Sportsshooter member David Stluka once when he did this for a time-lapse of Camp Randall Stadium filling up in Madison, WI. I'm almost positive there was no laptop up there and we were all using Canon.
Check this page out if you have any questions...
http://www.pocketwizard.com/products/transmitter_receiver/36/PW-MULTI/
It says you can do time-lapse photography, but I'm not sure how often you can get the camera to click. Might be something to look into.
Nice job though! |

->> The TC-80N3 works with all of the XXD's and XD's, D30 and D60 as it.
You can get an adapter with a miniplug that fits the G10's and rebels, without having to cut the cord.
This would have been a perfect application for it. Set the frame count to 00 and it just keeps going (at the interval you set) until either the camera batteries die, the card fills or you turn it off. |
