MkIII - Registered AF Point question

Hi all:

I just got issued one of these late last week at work. Still trying to get the hang of this thing and it's dauntingly expanded custom settings menu. Anyway, here's what I need.

Is that silly little "multi-controller" button the only one that will trip the registered AF point? On my trusty and much beloved MkIIn's, I had it set up where that button just to the left of the * button would switch to the registered AF point only when I held it down; would immediately jump back to "regular" AF point.

This was useful in situations where I wanted to jump back and forth between the expanded automatic AF point selection (outer ring of AF points) and one selected point, usually, for me, center. I mean this is how I shoot sports like 99 percent of the time.

So is there no other button than the multi-controller? And you have to tap it twice to get back to the regular AF selection? That seems silly. There's a perfectly good button to the left of the * button on the MkIII called "AF-ON" which appears to do nothing ... well, nothing for back-button folks like myself.

Just curious. Not that I'm an old dog or anything, but that multi-controller button is not in a comfy place and is no where near the * button. Just seems odd to be locked into it.

Anyway, thanks,

- gerry -
