->> As though working for free wasn't expensive enough.
I suppose, though, that this makes sense in the twisted context of our increasingly disparate American class system (yes, class does exist here!).
It's hard enough to compete with people/students who are wealthy enough to be able to work for free; but to pay for the privilege? When will the Haves and Have-Mores have enough? |

| ->> I find it rather interesting that such a vocal advocate for free education, free health care, higher taxes, cap and trade, and other plans requiring large scale financial sacrifice "for the common good" wants to make a student pay to work as an intern. |

->> I was blessed with an internship in college that led to a solid full time job.
It's because I connected, networked, and sometimes pestered to acquire that internship.
These students need to realize that you make things happen by doing footwork, and by paying for the opportunity you bastardize that sense of accomplishment and the attachment to opportunity.
At the end of the day despite whether that internship is with a ma and pa shop or the ACME corp, bottom line it comes down to the person’s drive and determination to take full advantage of the opportunity rather than something that looks good on a resume. |

->> Michael: this is kind of a 'reverse scholarship' position for the definition-inverting paid internship. And the money goes to charity! Yay, charity!
There's still 20+ "unpaid/free" internship slots available for deserving and talented students who can afford to work all summer long for no money, but can't afford to buy enough Wonka Bars to ensure they get the golden ticket to new media superduperstardom!

| ->> But Kirby, how can we be expected to teach children to learn how to take pictures if they can't even fit inside the building? |

| ->> Jamie, if the "have mores" pursue jobs in the journalism field, it would serve to level out the classes. They would almost instantly become have nots. |
