->> I am deeply sorry to report that, according to his sister, long time sports photographer Jeff Carlick passed away in his sleep. He was truly a nice guy with a good heart and a good sense of humor. He'll be missed.
There will be a memorial on May 16 for him in redwood city. |

I remember the times we had together at Dodger, USC, NFL and LA Express games years ago. He always had a great sense of humor, and was someone you never forgot spending time with. |

This news saddens me, and all that knew Jeff. |

->> Though I haven't seen Jeff in a while I have many fond memories of my time with him when he lived in So Cal...and of his kindness and good humor.
He helped a green, wet-behind--the-ear photographer recently moved to LA from Visalia with good advice, information on stadiums ...and most of all friendship and a smile.
Thanks Jeff. |

->> What a great guy. Some of my fondest memories of Dodger Stadium involve Jeff and others photographers in parking lot 6 after Sunday afternoon games when we would break out the fungo and gloves and chase down fly balls.
Needless to say we left some pretty good dents in cars. Some while they were moving. Sometimes even our own cars would take a hit. It was something we all looked forward to doing and he would always invite any out of town photographers to our post game ritual. You could tell that Jeff had played before as soon as he put the glove on. He couldn't really run them down much but if it was in range, he looked like an All-Star. What a great cut-off guy.
The fun ended when Jeff moved north. Just wasn't the same without Jeffy.
My wife and I still cherish the ceramic vase he made for us as a wedding gift.
Rest in peace my friend.... |

->> ...can't really believe this news... I keep saying that the reality of life is death, and it's happening so much more now as we all age... One never gets used to it, and the news of Jeff's passing is truly one of sadness and disbelief.
Jeff was a WONDERFUL friend who loved life and everything associated with it. Talented as a photographer, he was fun to work with... Lasting memories of Jeff were the days that Ken Griffey Jr. used to needle him during batting practice in Oakland...("who you working for?? ... I'm gonna pound on you...") ,the day I visited Jeff's house boat during one of my week long stays in the Bay Area (back in the day!) and admired his collection of baseballs in a basket in his living room...the temptation was too great for me, so I promptly signed every one of those baseballs on the sweet spot... he took my act of insanity with grace.
He was also our "official" videographer during a round of golf at Spyglass... catching my earth shattering divot drive for the ages..
Jeff... rest in peace, my friend... we will miss you.... |

Check out his pottery web site. He's an amazing artist. www.claybycarlick.com Thanks for being nice to me Jeff, you will be missed. |

->> My days with Jeff go back to the early 1980s at Cal State Fullerton. I never saw a person more in love with sports and sports photography then Jeff. He really enjoyed being on a field, he even enjoyed covering a CSUF football game. CSUF was so bad they dropped the football program after Jeff and I graduated. GO TITANS!!!
Not only could he shoot but much to my surprise he was an amazing artist as well. We have several ceramic items in our house that I bought at an art dealers in the bay area and they look amazing and are items of pride that you will see if you ever come visit us.
Ron Vesely did indeed sign Jeff's baseballs and anything not signed I finished off. The Funny thing about it is he kept those baseballs on his dinning room table long after Ves and I devalued them. Isn't that something?
The thing I most admire about Jeff is that he never said a bad word about anyone. I hate to say it but I don't know anyone like that, including myself and I have always envied and respected Jeff for that. He was truly a kind and generous person to his core.
Love you brother and I miss you already.

->> Oh my, what a shock. I haven't seen Jeff in years, but we went way, way back, in more ways than one. Aside from the photography circles so many of us shared with him, he also showed up at events my mother-in-law held to raise money for a local homeless charity in Fullerton. They worked together at the La Habra Star Progress, if I recall correctly, and she always loved working him with him there.
It's hard to imagine that we won't be seeing him around anymore.
What sad news. |

->> wow, Jeff will be missed, I remember Jeff covering Angel games, a long time ago, wearing a batting helmet, expecting the next foul ball to find him. Friendly to everyone and a sense of humor that would make all the photographers chuckle whether in a photo well or on the sidelines of a football game, I'm sorry and sad to hear of his passing. Every time I would see him, time of our absence would dissappear, and it would be like we never left each other, he is a good friend.
I have more info on the goodbye party:

| ->> I am so sorry for the families loss. Jeff was a great guy. I will always remember spending all those Sunday's on the sidelines. Like a lot of the posters, I too was a rookie shooter who was helped by Jeff. Even though I didn't know him as well as others, I considered him a good friend. We also spent a great night watching the San Jose Giants. |

| ->> What a shock! I first met Jeff when me worked at the La Habra Star Progress. He did a photo story on me during my senior year of high school football. It's funny thinking about it now. He was every where during the games following me. My mom still has a black and white 8x10 photo he took of me hanging in her office. Years later when I was looking for work at the Fullerton Tribune he would always find time to look at my photos. He would rib me years later when I started shooting Angels or Dodgers games together. I would have to believe Jeff and V.J. are playing catch today. Jeff you will be missed old friend. |

->> I am very shocked and saddened to learn of Jeff's passing.
He remains in my memory as one of the photographers I always enjoyed seeing most when covering games at Candlestick Park, the Oakland Coliseum or in Arizona.
He would always have a big smile, a hearty laugh, a good story or two and a big heart. He was very passionate about what he did and the people around him. I will miss you Jeff. |

->> i'm still in a state of disbelief. jeff's passing just doesn't register. always with a smile, a story about his cats or together scoping out a cute gal in the stands at the yard are memories that i'll remember. i felt honored to have drank a beer or two with him at lot C after a game at the 'stick. jeff, along with the likes of mangin, gruele, mabanglo and stanton, was nice of enough to include me (a young photo punk at the time) in post game activities.
a very kind soul who left too soon... |

What a generous, funny, talented guy. My only regret is that I did not get to know him better.
