->> There's two ways to look at this. The article indicates that GWC's have created enough pricing pressure that they have caused rates to fall. Fair enough.
The other side of the coin, however, is this: The market has expanded. More people are using photography, and that's good. The easy pickings at the bottom of the market will be a lot less easy, but that's where most of your problems come from anyway.
Be creative. Attack selective markets where you can make money. The marketplace is a dynamic thing that changes; you have to change with it. |

->> This person is typical of the "photographers" ruining our profession.
Excerpts from the article Mark listed: http://www.chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/mag/article.pl?articleId=31715&seenI...
"Chicagoan Melissa Song, 34, is frank about her lack of formal training. She started her photography business in March 2008 after her husband gave her an expensive digital camera. "Moms ask me, 'What is the resolution, blah blah,' and I have no clue," she says."
"It's not in my best interests to be that good," she says matter-of-factly of her editing. "It's in my best interests to be efficient." |

HMO's are going to have to put a stop to this. Every time I read something like that my GI doc makes another Benz payment. |

That is the essence of doing business with a mass market. Potentially, this woman could be far more financially successful than the vast majority of people who are skilled in sports photography but not in business.
