Verizon wireless card alternatives

->> I've had a Verizon wireless card for more than three years which I use on my computer to get online. It's been an unlimited use card.
I learned a few days ago that Verizon surreptitiously changed my unlimited account to a limited, 5gig transfer rate cap per month. Already I'm at 8 gig, resulting in $440 in overage fees. Ouch!
So I'm leaving these people and looking for Verizon card alternatives. Can a few of you chime in and tell me who else offers a wireless card, and what the monthly rates and terms might be? |

->> I'd raise hell with VZW and maybe they'll forgive the $440 overage fee. It's worth a try and the worst they could do is say 'no.' Maybe tell them you're gonna walk because of this. When I attended one of the SportsShooter.com workshops I changed my plan to National Access so I could roam in Cali without extra charges. But VZW screwed-up, didn't change my plan and charged me hundreds of dollars in roaming. I complained and they credited all the over charges back.
I just got a VZW USB modem for a reporter and I don't think she'll hit 5GB as she won't be uploading tons of photos/video but that seems to be the cap these days.
I've got an iPhone and I know where I live AT&T doesn't have as good coverage as VZW so that's why I didn't go with an AT&T mobile broadband plan. |

->> just curious-did you find out they changed your plan when you saw your bill? They never contacted you?
I also have the unlimited and I would no doubt raise hell if they all of a sudden changed it on me |

->> Everyone should check there VZW account. My Blackberry account is also labeled as unlimited and I even added the tether plan. You have to go digging but deep in the contract is the 5gb limit on the "unlimited" plan. When I connect through VZW I get a pop up that lists my current usage, heck I even got 2 phone calls from VZW reps when I first got the phone because the system tagged me as a 'heavy' user and that was for a few MB.
Everyone should ask for a copy of their current agreement and look though it. Look for what they define as normal/allowable use. I just saw a piece on CNN where some guy downloaded a movie while he was in Mexico with his kids and is looking at a $17K phone bill, and that's down from the $50k he was originally billed. I guess that the diff from the $50k to the $17k is the markup. The phone company claimed that the $17k was THEIR cost.
And while I'm at it, the Congressman from NY has/is/will introduce a bill that would limit what ISP's can do in setting caps. Look up Eric Massa(?sp). Seems that the fear of facing legislative action caused Time Warner to drop their attempt (in NY anyway) to place a tiered plan on the shoulders of their NY customers. |

->> Verizon, Sprint and AT&T all have 5GB limits now.
Here is a comparison between VZ and Sprint (EVDOinfo doesn't seem to be too big on AT&T):
