Question for Mac heads: File sharing and mouse
Bryan Hulse, Photographer

->> I've been on the Mac for a year.
Once you go Mac, you won't go back.
I have a Macbook Pro: 2.6 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OS X version 10.5.6.

I have a couple of Mac questions:

1) Does anyone use the wireless mouse (bluetooth) with the Macbook Pro? Mine is usable, but just slightly jerky. It's OK when used or web browsing or email. But when processing photos, it is frustrating.
I've gone through 2 mouses (plural?) and it's the same with both.
I took my MBP to Apple this morning with the mouse, and the tech didn't see anything wrong. It's really so slight, I didn't expect him to 'feel' it.
I've run corded mice on my MBP, and corded and wireless mice on my Windows XP machines, and they are smooth. But my bluetooth mouse on my MBP just doesn't cut it.
Anyone else experience this?

2) Unfortunately, I have to run Windows only software for my business (Photo One). I have Parallels running on my Mac (which is awesome), and have a Windows VM humming along. Photo One runs fine stand alone. But I can't share files to Windows, via Parallels running on my Mac, from my otherwise Windows network in my office.
I have found info on the web on how to share files from my Mac to my Windows VM running on Parallels, and this is working fine. But I haven't found anything about sharing files from a Windows network to Windows on my Mac.
Has anyone else solved this mystery?

Thanks Mac users!

->> Bryan,

I am not a network expert but I can speak to the sometimes jerky motion of the BT Mighty Mouse. There are 3 things I do that normally fix the problem.

First, I open the System Preferences for Keyboard and Mouse and select the mouse and adjust the tracking. It seems to fix it.

Second, check the batteries! Low batteries wreak havoc.

Lastly, make certain that you are not using cordless phones are other devices that might cause interference with the Bluetooth. You might try switching the channels of the phone and moving them away from the computer.

->> Thanks all.
Yes, the problem with my Apple mouse happens everywhere and even if I refresh the batteries.

Juliann: I have that wireless MS mouse at my studio and never even thought about using it on the Mac. I will give that a try tomorrow. It is a nice mouse.

->> Try turning off Discoverable in your Bluetooth Settings. If you have AppleCare, call them. Apple Geniuses know a lot but not as much as the phone support folks.

->> Juliann,

That is a USB wireless mouse. It requires a transceiver be plugged into USB. Not that there is anything wrong with that! I like the Bluetooth Mighty Mouse for the MacBook because it leaves all my USB ports open and there is no extra piece to break or lose.

USB Mice tend to work better in my opinion. If it weren't for the extra transceiver, I would use one of those. Wired is almost always best!

->> Rich: I thought about calling Apple care, but the 'twitching' is so slight, it's hard to really show someone. It's there, but it may not be worth the effort. My wired mouse is working well.
And yes, that's a USB mouse (the MS mouse). But hey, if it works...

BTW: Of all the things I've put my MBP through over the past year, this is the ONLY issue I've ever had, and it could be argued that I am being too picky. What an awesome machine!

Oh, and the Windows sharing issue. I am about ready to give up on that one.
