Used Nikon Gear and Roberts Imaging

->> Our paper is looking to unload some Nikon gear we've had in our storage closet for some time and I'm looking for some reviews of Roberts Imaging.
We've decided to trade in the gear for a store credit that would fund the photo department's needs for years to come. A company that works with Roberts has come back with the best bid, and frankly the best customer service, and I just want to see if any one of you can tell me that you think that they will be open for those years to come.
I'd just hate to get the credit and then have the company pull a Ritz Camera on us.
Thanks.

->> Roberts is a great company and I have had nothing but good experience with them as a buyer.
However, financial security is an issue for everyone (especially in the newspaper business). Why not list the gear here in the Classified Ads and keep direct control of the funds?
Just my thoughts. |

->> Thanks for the post Mark.
Our fear is that any cash we receive for this stuff will go to the company's bottom line instead of to the photo department. And since, as you said, "financial security is an issue for everyone (especially in the newspaper business)" we want to make sure we can buy supplies in the future as well as upgrade a few things right now.

| ->> This is just a humble guess based on visiting the store every time I'm in Indy, personal interaction with staff in person and on the phone and well, a gut feeling. I'd worry about the future of Roberts' about as much as I worry about Skynet going live in our lifetime. I'm willing to bet that John Conner will shopping at Roberts' for recon toys for the resistance effort if that day should come. |

->> +1 for Roberts. The staff is great.
Do not forget the Roberts is one of the SS sponsors. Every time I order from them they always get me a great deal. We need to support our sponsors. |

->> I use Roberts for a lot of purchases. I love Jody and want to have his children .. (well ok, that may be a bit of a stretch..)
The issue here, for me anyway, is your statement "for years to come".
NO ONE CAN PREDICT THAT. You and I don't know that the owners don't look at themselves tomorrow and decide it's more BS than it's worth and pull the plug. You're looking for a absolute when it's impossible to give one.
Having wrote that, Roberts is no Ritz. For starters, the Ritz model was totally broken. It relied on photofinishing and not expertise for a large portion of it's revenues. It's management invested in the BOAT business. While Roberts has a diverse mix, it's had that mix for years, unlike Ritz, which got into the boat business because the grass was greener on the other side.
There are no GUARANTEES. You "pays your money and you take your chances". I would say your chances, from the outside and knowing nothing, look as good as they can based on not knowing. |

->> Thanks everyone for your responses. It's good to hear that other professionals believe in their product and service.
Michael, I'm going in to this with the understanding that nobody knows what will happen tomorrow or the next day. I may not even be employed long enough to spend any of this credit. Thanks for the input and for your honest assessment.
Again, thanks to everyone for responding.
