->> This is an interesting article. Shows just how corrupt television news really is. Those out there who can't wait for newspapers to die might want to re-adjust their thinking.

->> yes I found that interesting as well. Here in Detroit the local NBC affiliate who we had worked close with gave no mention to the Pulitzer our paper won. In fact one of the two lead reporters use to work for that same station.
Sour grapes I guess. |

->> Maybe news directors just simply decided that in a world of issues surrounding waterboarding, the economy and so on.... awards given to the media might not matter to anyone outside of say... the media.
Really. The work done was amazing and all folks should take a look but given the current media environment ask yourself this. What is a Pulitzer, a BOP, a NPPA clip contest award really worth.
Hack away. |

| ->> Why should your competitors toot your horn for you? They're competing for the same advertising dollars. Papers are notorious for not promoting their own awards. TV has no problem doing so. Time to change our way of thinking. |

It's not what an award is "worth" it's the recognition of excellence it represents.

->> Adam--
You may be more to the point than others realize. In this era of the ever diminishing impact of the newspaper, as verified by falling add revenue and dropping circulation, it might be that other media are looking at this and thinking the Pulitzers are a relic of a bygone era. For sure they aren't an Emmy.

->> I and my co-workers at a local TV station have never been mentioned in our town's newspaper when we've won awards- even very prestigious national awards...
Interpret as ye will. |

->> This article that Chuck linked to has nothing to do with the publication of awards by the media outlets that won them or by other media outlets in the same area or in broadcasting the winners of the award in general.
It has to do with an NYTimes reporter who uncovered the Pentagon's program of using retired generals to spin news on all the major News networks and some of the cable news networks to promote the government's war agenda. The issue arises when these same networks run stories about these awards and fail to mention the NYTimes reporter who implicated them in the coverup. To top it off they then continue to use those same reporters/analysts/generals in their ongoing coverage.
There is a lot more to this story than what the title suggests. |

->> Exactly Derek.
What makes it scary to me as more and more newspapers are closed are have there staffs downsized to nothing that stories like this will not come to light.
This story shows a SERIOUS error on the networks part and gives their credibilty a major hit. |

| ->> Networks, credibility? Never did equate. When newspapers turn out the lights, the "party's" over. Fear the dark. |
