"Navigating the Downturn: A Photography Survival Discussion”
With the near-collapse of the newspaper industry, there is a glut of former newspaper photographers determined to keep doing what they do best, but without the training and knowledge of business ownership. Proper pricing, negotiations, contracts, taxes, and the true costs of doing business are not something that those who have worked on a newspaper staff are often exposed to.
An influx of ill-prepared photographers into the freelance market is in no one’s best interest.
In response, the National Press Photographers Association is holding a free educational event, “Navigating the Downturn: A Photography Survival Discussion”, on Saturday, May 9, from 6:00-9:30 pm"
Panel includes Rod Mar, Karl Maasdam, Rich Frishman and myself. and its FREE. I hope you can come! |

I can't tell you how psyched I was when Tony told me you'd signed-on. It's a great panel and should be a good program.
What I want to get out there now is that this is not supposed to be a one-time thing:

We're looking for members in all local areas who feel a need for one of these programs. The national office will help with some of the planning and help with publicity.
There is little any of us can do to stem the tide of what's happening to newspapers, but as a group we can do a pretty good job of helping each other find out own way to ride things out.
