Creating a Photo Book

->> Does anyone have a good site they would like to share for creating my own photo book? I'm creating a book for my wife for her first Mother's Day of some of my son's photos, so it's just one copy, not a whole run. I'm looking for someplace reputable, cost effective, and with a fairly quick turn-around time.
Thanks! |

| ->> If you are on a Mac, try using iPhoto or Aperture. To something quick, I have also used Blurb. |

->> PS-I have used Adorama and a friend has made several books using Lulu. Lulu's are very impressive and extremely inexpensive
the Adorama books are on REAL photo paper |

->> blurb.com
I've used them about 5-6 times now and have been pretty happy with the results. They're also good if you want to go beyond the standard 20 pages most places offer without paying $1+ per extra page. Their software is pretty decent and allows for a range of layout, and not just cheesy ones like from some places.
The last two orders I've had with them this year have also shipped faster than their estimated times. The last one, a 20 page book with 50 copies shipped in only about 4 days and is normally estimated at around 10 business days. |

->> Artscow.com does a nice book for a very inexpensive price. They are in Hong Kong so it might take a couple weeks to get it. But I have gotten several so far and they are every bit as good, if not better than the ones I have gotten from Apple using iPhoto and Aperture.
Right now through 4/30/09 you can get 6 20 page 8" x 8" books for 8.00 each shipped using
Gift Certificate Code : FREE6BKS
Expires on: 04/30/2009. Use paypal for payment as some credit card companies whill charge extra for the international transactions. |

->> I'll second Blurb.com
It's drag and drop basically and they allow you to add some neat effects. The turn around isn't half bad either. |

->> +3 for Blurb.com.
I have also produced a couple via Aperture and do not think the quality is near as good as what Blurb produces. |

->> I use Blurb for the little fun ones and CoutureBook for the fancy ones.
Lay it out in Aperture for the control. Save your layouts as JPG's. And insert those JPG's into Blurb's software.
Also, sign up for a B3 account.

I have heard nothing but good things from people that have used them. |

->> Under 40 pages, MyPublisher (http://www.mypublisher.com) pricing is pretty good. First time users get a discount off their regular pricing so that might be good.
Otherwise, if you have more than 40 pages, Blurb (http://www.blurb.com) is by far the best way to go. I've used both and never had a bad book print quality-wise yet.
I use InDesign to lay out the pages instead of the templates provided in the software from both companies. If it is image only, you could do the same with CS or any other graphic image editing program so you will have more control over image position, layout and effects (like screening back images for background images or doing two page spreads).
I have a few books I keep as samples from both companies. Give me a call if you want to meet up and see them before deciding which way to go. |

| ->> I also use Blurb. There are several options on paper quality and no pay-per-page rates. The customer service is also good. I've only ever had one problem with a book (stain on all the pages as if ink was spilled). They fixed it right away, no hassles. I usually use PS to lay out the pages in and insert them into the blurb program, but the templates they have available plentiful. I fully recommend them. |
