| ->> Hey Gang.. I just shot my first ever Dragrace. Actually this is the first time shooting anything relating to a car or vehicle.. Can you guys take a look at my page and give some feedback or advice as to how to make my shots better.. I know the first thing I have to do is make sure that my lens is free of rubber, but I put those up to give you guys an idea of what I was trying.. All feedback is appreciated and welcomed. I know I should of captioned all of these, but I just got done editing them and after two days of shooting I am beat. |

->> I'd like to see you change up your lens selection a little bit...shoot some tighter, shoot some looser.
You said that you were at the track for two days, but all of your photos are from the same position. Did you move around the track?
And finally, I'd like to see some photos of people. Did you ever walk around the garage area? Did you photograph the drivers? Did you photograph the crews? Did you photograph any fans? |

->> I created a gallery of some more shots that I took.. and I did take all the other type photos, but I take those types of shots all the time so I wanted to get just feedback from the actual car stuff..
I know it doesnt look like it, but I did use 4 different lenses from 17mm to 400mm.. I guess I should of taken some pics from behind the starting line, but other than that, I was at a loss.. I also was going to get a shot in the grandstands, but I just was too taken in by the cars until it was too late..

->> Bill, I should have explained myself a little better about the lens selection....sorry for that.
A better way of saying what I said is that your perspective is similar on all your images. Yes, you were switching your lenses, but based on how close you were to the cars, all the photos look the same...all but two of your images show the cars from nose to tail.
As a former editor, I really would like to see you moving around more. Look at some of the stuff from motorsports photographers on this site and on places like Getty Images. Even if you're just out shooting the event for yourself, you should think about shooting it as a group of images, not just singles. You need to shoot some wide stuff, and by that, I don't mean just putting on your 16-35...I mean shoot images that show the environment of the race. You need to shoot some details. You need to play with light a little bit. You need to get high, and you need to get low. And like I said before, you really need to get photos of the people involved.
Hope that helps. |
