HELP - Camera lens stuck to body

->> A slight problem here, I tipped over my camera this afternoon, and now my 400 2.8 wont detach (it still works just fine, images and focus are sharp).
I've tried all the obvious tricks...the button pushes down, but the lens is locked in pretty good. Anything I could try without the chance of more damage?
If not, is there anyplace in the Chicago-area that could do it on a Sunday in a pinch? If not, it's not the end of the world, as I've got another body...but I sure would like to separate the two!
Thanks in advance,
Dan |

| ->> Had that happen to me last Fall, couldn't find anyway to get it off, I finally had to send it to CPS. Good luck. |

->> Your locking pin is bent. DON'T try and force it off.
I've had this happen with my 400 a few times. The last time a TV guy kicked it over and CPS had to drill it out. It won't be cheap to fix.

->> Daniel:
It also happened to me two years ago. (400 2.8 L and MKIIn).
I believe the bill would have been around $400.00, however the lens was damaged during shipping back to me. Therefore, CPS gave me and almost new lens to replace my old one (six years old). They also service and calibrated my camera free of charge... The entire process took approximately 3 weeks. I don't know if to wish you the same or better luck than me then... F |

->> Also, if the impact was enough to bend the locking pin, the mount dimensions are probably off as well.
This could be a major repair and something you should not mess around with. Just ship it to a repair center and hold your breath. |

| ->> The funny part to all this is I've had the camera back from Canon for approximately 1 week since it's last Clean n' Check... Damn. |

| ->> Felix is right around where it cost me ... my 400 2.8 IS stuck to my MKIII ... drilling and a new mount was about $500 CDN. As Bert said ... dimensions might be on for now but, I had to send mine back after repair for a focus calibration. Canon haters can start their jokes here: |
