Presidential visits & strobes

->> Hi all--Notre Dame has President Obama as our Commencement speaker. I have a simple question that has so far proved surprisingly difficult to answer. I would like to use my strobes for the event as I have done in the past. Has anyone out there had a presidential visit (any president) in a venue where you have lights and used 'em? If you didn't use 'em, was it because you asked & were forbidden?

As a brief bit of background--yes, ND lights the Commencement platform very well but the rest of the arena is dramatically out of color balance with the platform. Under available light you have a beautifully-lit speaker addressing a sea of green people. I use my lights on minimum power simply as 5500K fill. I know no one will be allowed on the catwalk after the sweep--no problem there. I have thought about this at length and I cannot see any problems from a security perspective. It's just flashbulbs. At minimum power they are no more noticeable than the thousands of on-camera flashes going off throughout the ceremony.

Thanks.

->> Matt,

Contact the White House Press Office and ask. Their contact information should be available from the university or thru the paper. Same folks you request credentials from. They should be able to help.

->> Matt--

The beauty of having a Presidential visit, is that they bring in an ENTIRE lighting crew to light the stage, crowd, and so on, perfectly well.
