| ->> I had my dorm room broken into and unfortunately most of my equipment stolen. Besides calling the police and having a report made out, is there anything else that I should do? I'd really love to get some of my stuff back as I'm a student and had just canceled the insurance on my stuff. I was getting ready to sell it all next week. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks. |

->> Check Craig's list. Pawn Shop's, Camera shops and the like. Prepare a list of the missing equipment with serial numbers and let the shooters in BR know what was stolen. I hate to play police detective but it sounds like this was done by someone who lives in the dorm or knows you are a shooter. Check with your insurance to see if you are still covered under the grace period.
Also I'm not certain but since you are living in University housing the school may automatically cover you with a renters insurance policy through the school.Check to see if the dorm has cameras in the public areas of the dorm. Also if the dorm was closed over the Easter holiday there is a possibility that the school may have some liability since the building was not secured. |

->> Chris-
Very sorry to hear about your camera gear. I think most people have been there. First things first...get your address off your Sports Shooter page/website else where. I know its super paranoid, but well...if a criminal is vaguely intelligent (which some of them are) it's an easy way to find targets.
Report the gear as stolen to CPS/NPS whoever so they know if it comes across.
Sorry again, good luck. |

->> Chris,
Always a bummer to have gear go missing, but there may be a glimmer of hope.
If you canceled you coverage before the renewal date and expect a refund of premium paid, you're probably screwed. If on the other hand you gave notice that you don't intend to renew coverage, you should be protected until the last day of your current binder. If the theft happened before that date, you should have coverage, even if the agent doesn't like the idea.
Give you agent or your company's 800 number a call and get the ball rolling. Make sure you let them know there is a police report. |

| ->> You may want to check some of the people who have showed interest in purchasing your equipment. While in the Air Force, one of my troops had that happen. Come to find out, the kid up the hall who was interested in buying his equipment (stereo) broke into his room while he was away on a Typhoon evacuation (I was stationed in Okinawa) to Guam. |

->> I generally have some fun on these forums, crack the occasional joke or seven, but I'd never make any jokes about people losing gear to theft, dishonesty, muggings and suchlike. Anyone who has been the victim of theft, passive or violent, knows what a terrible feeling it is.
But if I ever see Mike Brice post anything about getting gear hoisted, I'll be begging Burf to code in a "Karma" button ASAP. |

->> Jack,
I have to agree. I wouldn't care if someone took a Digital Rebel off the floor. Taking something that does not belong to you is bad business for all of us. I sometimes leave my stuff on the floor when I'm back in the media room downloading between games. Call me stupid, but yes I've done that along with a whole lot of other people that belong to this site. At the Final Four too with all the security running around there on the floor. I almost cussed on that one, but I'll use the short version. WTF? |

->> Chris/Jack,
Sorry if my post offended. I didn't mean to make fun of Chris' situation.
Hopefully you can locate your gear.
And this is another valuable lesson that we all need to have our gear insured - it is part of being a professional or an aspiring professional. |
