| ->> how the heck can the NCAA think the school has anything to do with a facebook page that somebody outside the Athletic Department creates. So, if I made the page (no ties to NC State at all, well I shot the wedding of an alum) what would they do? The NCAA is so annoying. |

->> And then people complain about the fact that some kids go straight from h.s. (granted only a few) to the NBA. How is a student athlete supposed to feel when the NCAA pulls tactics like this, tells athletes whether they can have a job or not, the multitude of restrictions put on scholarship athletes.
Then the NCAA is making billions of dollars from tv contracts, advertising, ticket sales, the list goes on. All on the effort of kids who have no say about what is done to them. Most of the kids aren't going to be pro athletes, they just want to play whatever sport it is they have done for much of their life. They then get treated like this because they are willing to make compromises to play said sport. |

->> Seems a little far-fetched to me, but then the NCAA is not always logical on things like this.
So this student create a page that may never been seen by anyone, especially the athlete in question.
So some students want a high-profile recruit to come to their school and essentially sign a petition (by joining a Facebook group) saying so. Hmmm, wonder where the First Amendment comes into play. Can the NCAA circumvent the Constitution???
And I should say not only the NCAA can be weird on this stuff. Years ago I sat through a state high school governing body where one school was claiming an athlete was claiming an illegal address to play for a certain school. All the evidence presented at the hearing backed the athlete's claims that he was living with his father at his apartment in the school district. Yet the governing body still said he was ineligible to play. |

->> Amazing.
Last week, there was a nice NPR story about the NCAA trying to crack down on unlicensed use of "Final Four," "Sweet Sixteen" (I guess birthday parties don't apply), "The Big Dance," "March Madness," etc. In the interview, a lawyer counseling the NCAA specifically said that they needed to be careful about who they go after - many of the violators are the NCAA's biggest fans. He said that the NCAA needed to be careful to protect their logos, but not alienate fans.
Whoever is in charge of the Facebook crackdown needs to listen to that interview.

->> Come on folks, don't you know, it's not the 5 star on campus recruiting visits where they get top notch meals, VIP tours, game day locker room access and nothing but shining lights and glory that makes them choose. It's the Facebook recruiting page that gets the most signups that determines everything.
Thank goodness the NCAA is around to protect and serve. |

| ->> Boy I am glad I didn't run into John Wall while in Raleigh. If I said "please come to NC State" the NCAA may have taken that as an improper contact considering I am the NC State men's basketball photographer. I think the NCAA should reconsider their rules on inappropriate contacts. |

->> The pendulum has swung too far and needs some movement to the center.
NCAA has overreacted in many instances in my opinion lately. Since there have been some legitimate violations of recruiting over the years and obvious payoffs from schools with the financial means to do so through their alumni the NCAA has tried to regulate everyone.
I hope some cases do go to court to counteract this movement so the industry has some balance brought back and keeping the NCAA from bullying folks who are just exercising freedom of speech. |
