| ->> Who works or freelance for Community First Holding, Inc. I'm a freelance Photojournalist that was working at the Lockport Union Sun & Journal. The problem was that they wanted me cut my invoice from 80 dollars to 40 dollar a month and then other 40 next month. I'm tired of the penny pinching for the last time. Anybody else this is problem? |

->> EVERYONE has this problem. You have two choices; be prepared to walk away from the paper. The other choice is to accept it.
You can see if they will work with you, but I wouldn't hold my breath. |

| ->> Albert there's got to be more to the story. Is it a case where the person who gave you the assignment wasn't authorized to go over a certain limit i.e. $50 for a stringer assignment or is it a matter where someone's budget is blown this month and is asking you to cover their ass by splitting the billing? I mean any paper that can't AFFORD $80 is something to run from so there has to be an underlying reason for the split. |

->> This is not a problem that needs to be solve, Eric. I no longer work for that paper.
I just wanted to know if anyone working or freelance for this company? And has the same problem. The problem with payment is solved. I should be receiving the big check for four days in March and one in April for $80 buck next month and then the celebration will begin. "O'boy" |

Painting with a pretty broad brush. I know PLENTY of papers in Texas that don't even come close to paying that kind of money.
And it doesn't make them a bad paper if they can't afford it. I know I certainly can't afford that kind of money for a freelance photographer. |

| ->> $40.00 is low, heck I heard the other day one of my former employers was gonna offer $16.00 for the entire photo shoot. If that does go through my lord will the market of freelancing go to crap overnight were I live. |

->> Al, I feel your pain, rates for editorial freelance in the western New York are from $13 (a picture) to, at the high end $25 (an assignment) and they want pro gear - some times lighting. There is very little around, unless you were lucky to land a Buffalo News union gig years ago - and they are even on the rocks now.
We have to be very creative with how we make a living and not count anything out.
Good Luck. |

->> Jason I wasn't trying to paint anyone. Maybe I wasn't clear in my comment. Any paper (or any business for that matter) that hires a person to do a job for $80 and then hasn't got the capital to cover the invoice is something to run from.
I will assume that **IF** you hire a freelancer for $80 or $800 for a job, that you have to funds to cover the invoice when it comes in. So I'm not dogging you for not hiring out stringers over $XX per gig. |

->> Eric yes I agree with that. It's just bad business to hire someone knowing you don't have the funds to pay it whether it's a $1 or $1,000.
My apology for misunderstanding your post! |
