buyouts/layoffs and equipment purchases

->> We are in the midst of a round of buyouts/layoffs and I'm trying to gather some information on what other papers did in regards to letting photographers buy/lease their issued camera gear. | ->> I know in Philly that some shooters were given the option of buying their gear but it was taken on a case by case basis. I am not sure how the pricing was done but I would assume market value for used gear in similar condition. |

->> In 2006, when most of us left The Times, our photo editor was tasked with arranging for pricing. He got quotes from a couple of places for the entire equipment list --- important because shops will often pay less per body if they're taking in 20, then they would if they were buying one or two --- then the prices were averaged to create a per package price for each of us.
We all walked away with essentially the same gear: A 1D, a 10D with grip, a 550, a 420, a 16-35, 70-200/2.8 IS, 50 macro, and 1.4 x teleconverter for ~ $2100.... |
