DX vs. FX crop

| ->> Is there any difference between a D3/D700 shot in DX mode and the same frame made in FX mode and cropped in post? I know that if shot in DX, you can fill the frame the way you want and it saves time editing later, but is the image quality any different? |

Personally I've never really found any advantage as I'd much rather have a little extra frame to work with if I'm otherwise not gaining anything from the crop mode.
If we were talking a big increase in speed, like going from 5 to 10 FPS then maybe it makes sense, but for 9 to 11 fps I'd rather just do the cropping myself as needed and not have to deal with the frustration of missing a near action shot because my otherwise wide enough 70-200 files were getting cropped by the camera. Your just throwing pixels away. |
