->> Jesse, just like our government, the banks, auto makers and any other high-end business CEOs one word:
G R E E D
They have all been getting by with this for years . . . with NO ONE noticing, until now.
Oh, don't *even* get me started. I have been ranting about this crap since way before the election. No, I'm not one of the happy little sheeple that blindly follows.
Sorry. Rant over.
Disgusted.

| ->> Whoa whoa whoa here, in their defense do you have any idea how hard it is to sit in those cherry wood polished AC offices reclining in those $1,000 custom vibrating, heated chairs with their 60' tv screens that pop up with the push of a button, drinking $100 bottle water and not having to drive their own town car??? Well do you? Me either but for that kind of money it must be difficult. They earn that money. We have it easy out there in the heat, rain and cold lugging all that gear dealing with all those clients. The long hours hunched behind our 15" (17" for the unlucky ones) monitors editing for hours on end. We're the ones who are over paid and should buck up and sacrifice a little more for the industries sake. Those poor execs have the tough jobs and make the difficult (crusted halibut or poached salmon) decisions. Ease up on them guys, what if it was you? |

->> Dianna--
Is it greed for the typical major league sports salary to be well into seven figures?
Is it greed for the typical hollyweird pop culture star to be paid well into seven figures for appearing in a movie?
Is it greed for anyone to want to make as much money as they can, as in maximize their potential earnings?
Is it greed that motivates members of Congress to vote themselves pay raises?
How many of these large corporation CEO's set their own salaries or annually give themselves raises, as do members of Congress?
I think you'll find every large corporation has a board of directors who is responsible for approving the compensation for the CEO, they are likewise responsible to the shareholders to maximize earnings so as to provide as much dividend as possible to retain investors (shareholders) and attract new investors (shareholders).
Such is the nature of capitalism.

| ->> On a more personal level, would any one here, if offered X amount to shoot a job, respond to the offering party: your company could have larger earnings if you only paid me 1/2 X to shoot this job? |

->> All I'm saying is . . .
If a company -- any company -- is struggling, and concessions must be made, then it should not just be from the bottom or from the backbone of the business. If CEOs are still siphoning off the top while the company is sinking like the Titanic, it is WRONG. Yes, it is greed.
"Is it greed for anyone to want to make as much money as they can, as in maximize their potential earnings?"
Oh, come on Steve. Not even close.
Please don't mistake me for someone that thinks people should be stopped from earning as much as they can -- by working hard and earning their living. I have no problem with high salaries -- it is what everyone I know (or care to associate with) strives for. That is NOT greed.
And I certainly do not agree with "spreading the wealth" and giving to those with their hands out while they do nothing to help themselves. And I absolutely think we need less government telling anyone what they should be able to earn, including CEOs.
As far as CEOs being responsible to their investors/shareholders, of course all involved should do what's best to maintain a healthy, viable product and company. But if what they are doing destroys the company, you have to wonder what else is really going on.
Trust me, I'll take capitalism over socialism any day!
Now, excuse me while I get back to work.
