Anyone out there care to explain this?

If this is part of Getty Images new marketing plan, good luck. If not then Getty has some serious security flaws.

" . . . these can be enlarged to 18x24 in most cases . . ."

If this statement is true, then these files are probably every bit of 8x10 at 300dpi, in which case they are absolutely not screen grabs. "Security flaw" indeed!

->> Getty does have some serious security flaws, they've busted a few people already selling passwords illegally taking images, making prints and selling them (signed an unsigned by the players) from what I've heard. I see stolen Getty images when passing the autograph hounds at hockey games, one in particular has STACKS of prints he sells on Ebay after getting them signed - and openly admits he steals them from Getty because "a friend gave him the password".

Report the listing(s) to Ebay, maybe they'll actually pay attention if enough people do - though they are infamous for ignoring reports for as long as they can because they're making money from it, so of course won't jump right on it.

For a company that hands out $1.32 image usage payments to photographers like water, it wouldn't be a surprise that they actually agreed to some sort of "unlimited usage" fee that would allow someone to do this.

->> I brought this up months ago. This seller is selling stolen photos from Getty on EBAY and has been for months / years. When you contact them they say they purchased these photos from respected photographers in the industry.

Ebay will do pretty much nothing on the matter because they make hundreds if not thousands on listing fees and final auction fees from this buyer.

Only way it will stop is if Getty files a complaint otherwise everybody sit back and watch the Getty images sell on ebay like hot cakes.

Unless you, personally, have images on the site, you have no standing to complain. You can't file a complaint on behalf of somebody else.

They say they'll take a look and judge to remove it or not but routinely ignore it because they're making money off it. The VERO program is for the copyright owners to get it removed immediately.

The ebay seller linked at the beginning of this post no longer has any CD's listed of 1000's of photos from NCAA, NFL or NBA games.

Unfortunately I found another seller with similar description.
Over 800 pics from NCAA basketball 2009 championship tournament
The quality of these photographs is simply amazing - they are ALL suitable for making prints in sizes up to 18x24 Inches.

I selected one picture featured on a listing. I Dragged it onto my desktop and opened it in photoshop. It's a 16.5M file. The caption reads
NEW YORK - MARCH 12: Paul Harris #11 of the Syracuse Orange drives to the hoop against the Connecticut Huskies during the quarterfinals of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden on March 12, 2009 in New York City. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images) *** Local Caption *** Paul Harris
I filed another complaint with Ebay on the possible theft of intellectual property using a fraudulently obtained password from a wire service.

This is serious if Ebay is allowing this stuff to go on. I wonder what the photographer's are saying if they are just becoming aware of this. That is awesome the other page was shut down. Keep up the GREAT work whom ever made Ebay aware of the other page.

Too funny. You don't even have to buy the pic from the seller you can just right click and save it to make prints from your favorite NCAA/Pro athlete or game.

PRICELESS.....LOL

Instead of contacting eBay, forward the information to Getty Images' legal department as well as the photographers whose work is being displayed. Getty's legal folks will certainly love to have the work and Getty the revenue from the infringement.

The eBay seller goaliemon89 no longer has any CD's of photos up for sale.
There were 68 listings this morning representing thousands of images.
This is serious stuff, it's a breach of integrity in our profession and the value of the images we produce. From my random sampling it appears most of the images were Getty images. I don't work for Getty but many of you do, it's really not my place to be making these complaints to eBay. It got me upset to see all this and I know if there were a CD of my careers work being sold on eBay for five bucks I would be angry as heck. Please feel free to make any other similar complaints to eBay, apparently it works. If you work for Getty, contact your legal deapartment.

My images or not I'd report them if I know they are stolen because you never know when your images are next, and hopefully someone else would do the same. I've had images on there stolen, prints but still.
