Sometimes drives require more bus power to mount without a separate power supply on a laptop... I have some lacie portables that wont mount on my new MacBook but will mount on my MacBook Pro. Actually it did not even show up in the Disk Utility but I checked permissions on a couple of the other drives I had and all of a sudden it just showed up go figure. Four Hard drives have failed on me (three Lacies!) and they almost all started with that symptom. I would definitely back it up and if its under warranty still, send it back, or ask for a replacement. At the very least, call THEM about it. I have a Wester Digital 500 gig drive that was completely dead. After reading your post I picked it up and rapped it on the desk and it lit up and mounted.
