->> AND ... Thanks to Bill Pekala, Ron Taniwaki and Nikon for making Sports Shooter Academy VI tuition-free for the 42 college and university students! (And helping me to keep the pricing low for the non-students.)
ALSO ... Special thanks to Doug Murdoch and Think Tank Photo and Louis Feldman and Samy's Camera for their continued support of this wonderful educational program. Both Think Tank and Samy's have been with me since the beginning of this workshop.
As you can tell ... I AM EXCITED about SSA VI!

->> Bert it was an extended amount of time at the ring yesterday at Staples Center, however I enjoyed working a sport I have never experienced. Cheesy costumes, choice of music, and the dramatic posses in the routines were entertaining. World Figure Skating Championships is the last thing I thought, I would enjoy. However I am looking forward to working the event all week long. More importantly, I am stoked to the best sport workshop to come in just 15 days now from this posting. Velodrome cycling is going to be SWEET!
Cheers! |

I'm nowhere close to being ready...I'm going to be on a tight schedule that week. I have to travel to Missouri for a shoot the two days before I fly out of Austin at 6am for California...yikes.
Can't wait to meet everyone! And I know it has been said, but a big thanks to Nikon for helping with the event. I can't wait to try out some lenses that aren't currently in my lineup. See you all soon! |

+1 Though for horse racing and boxing :) |

It's fun. Everyone who's going...enjoy it! Interact and gnaw at your instructor's minds about anything and everything, not just photography. Lots of caffeine/sugar will be necessary.
Also, get the Photo Mechanic demo (if you don't already own it) NOW to make your lives easier. |

->> Well, I got called into the game late off the IR list and I am STOKED to be heading down to SoCal into some much warmer weather than we have been having here in Vancouver, BC.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and working alongside lots of creative people.
Except for Packing all my travel plans are on lockdown so I'm not really stressed about making it down there.
More stressed on wether or not I'll need long glass for this thing.
My longest lens is a 70-200 2.8 but I have multipliers. I shoot the JEDI side of things so the Nikon Long glass wont help.
That Being said I would like to thank the Boys at Nikon for their contribution to the cause and I look forward to checking out all the cool gear.
Can't wait. |

According to the Dark Side.....I am your father, together we can conquer the rebel alliance and rule the universe. Translated.....
They have the Nikon bodies to check out so break away from the norm and try something you normally wouldn't, like Nikon. Then you can get the long glass to use along with you "short" stuff.
Its all good and may the schwartz be with you!

All that's left to do is rent a canon lens while I'm down there and supplement what I have with Nikon (thanks Bill and Ron!)
As always, I'm looking forward to warmer weather... it snowed 2 or 3 inches last night. Grrr. |

->> Darrell,
Sad to say but yes I didn't plan things well. We are putting in a new workflow system in prepress and I figured it would interfere with any fun I would have down in California. As it turns out we are finishing the last updates and scripts this week and I probably could have come down. I am sure this will be the best SSA so far. I wish I was there, I am looking forward to the updates so make sure you guys update your pages as often as possible. To everyone attending, good luck, have fun, shoot lots. |

Then to add insult to injury you throw out that someone cancelled last minute. They have no idea what they are missing out on. I know it will be an amazing week.
Everyone heading out to ssa take full advantage of everything you can while there. Don't forget to be appreciative of the sponsors, Nikon, Think Tank and Samy's for all of their efforts helping Bert do his magic presenting an unbelievable workshop. |

What gives you the right to judge someone's decision? I realize after looking at your member photos you need help with lighting but please don't bust someone's balls for opting out of this seminar over buying equipment they think they need. |

->> Bert and Matt,
Thank you for the invite to come down, it is really tempting. I just do not think I will make it down. One of the things that makes SSA so great is the two of you and the other staff and how friendly and helpful you are.
For the students that are headed to California, make sure you take any chance you have to talk and show work to the instructors. Do not be shy, they are all approachable and great people. Take chances and step out of your easy zone. Try new things and make sure you fail, keep trying. You may come up with something great. There are no grades, editors you work for, just good people wanting to make you a better shooter.
Good luck, have fun, shoot everything you can. |
