My clip contest entries always look washed out -- why?

->> Just wondering if anyone can offer some technical advice. When I'm judging the monthly clip contest and I come across one of my entries, I can't help but notice my colours look washed out compared to what the original file looked like on my computer. Am I doing something wrong? I have a similar problem when importing photos into a Final Cut project, and I think I remember reading somewhere that it has to do with profiles and calibration.
Any thoughts? |

| ->> You're monitor might be too dim when you edit the photos. They look good to you, but on another monitor, they are washed out. I had that problem with my Dell 24" inch monitor. When I switched to a Mac, I didn't have the problem anymore. Have you used any calibration software on your monitor yet? I use Huey Pro and it works really well. |

| ->> Convert your photos to sRGB before saving them for the web. |

Dominick, I thought about leaving the 'u' out of it, but I gotta show my Canadian roots. ;-) |

->> I've encountered the same problem! I figured it was the color space. I hear it depends on the browser you use too. I believe safari uses sRGB...right? Anybody know what color space the others like firefox, explorer, netscape (if it still exist) etc. uses?? Anyway I've edited in RAW and had my setting to sRGB when I know I only want to add something to my blog, SS, facebook profile etc but I still find the images don't match on Sportsshooter. Not that the others sites work. I just havent had a chance to compare on those other sites. But I am sure the same result will happen.
Could it be anything else going on, besides color space that could be doing this to Lyle and I and anybody else whose had this problema???? I am thinking it has something to do with PROOF SETUP under the View tab in PS. If so, 1. What choice do you guys use?? 2. AND If PROOF COLORS (apple Y) under the tab View in PS ISN'T even checked off/on/working what is the DEFAULT PS uses???? Try changing the proof settings or turning on and off the proof colors. You'll see. Sorry I know a lot of questions. But hey "the trick is to surround yourself with smarter people" and pick their brain.

| ->> Firefox and Safari I believe are the ones who actually try to show accurate colors using sRGB. |

| ->> sRGB is a standard for websites regardless of the browser you use. A browser with color management should display images with other color spaces correctly. However, most browsers do not have color management. |

| ->> Ivan - if your monitor's calibrated correctly, use Proof Setup -> Monitor RGB. Compare the colors from there; they should match what displays in your browser if everything's right. |
