->> I was wondering what software Burt and Fish are using to do their captions in their portfolio sections. Are you using the Meta-Data (IPTC Fields)? Or are you just fromatting the text before you post the images? How are you getting it formatted like

Hmmm check out their portfolio's for the real formatting/style, it does seem to work in the MB post |

->> Allen:
I fill out all the data in Photo Mechanic, and pre-positiion it into IPTC headers before I edit ant of the images. I lay the captions in between the pre-positioned text after I edit the images.
My captions, generally will have this in place before I lay in the caption:
7-AUGUST-2003 FOXBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, USA

When I edit the images, in Photo Mechanic, I then the caption into the "sandwiched" info above.
Obviously for some clients I use the AP Standard caption style and do not pre-positon any text info the caption box, I do however fill out the rest of the IPTC header info in Photo Mechanic before editing.
I do use FotoStation for some clients, but prefer Photo Mechanic by a mile for batch captioning prior to editing |

->> Allan:
This is what it looks like in the caption box when an editor opens the file in Photoshop, Photo Mechanic or Foto Station:
7-AUGUST-2003 FOXBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, USA
---PATRIOTS VS GIANTS---NFL PRESEASON---, at Gillette Stadium. The New England Patriots defeated the New York Giants 26-to-6, in the teams first pre-season game of the 2003-2004 season.

(Obviously a complete caption is in place when sent, the above is what I use as a "spacer" caption. This way my info is 90% in place, I just fill in the who and what) |

->> David ---
Spell checker (something I've ask Dennis for ages about) is not in the current Mac version ... it is in the new PC version.
Dennis has said that the new Mac version of PM will be out in a few months and will feature the things that the new, spiffy PC version has ... check out the users report on the beta PC version:

->> check out the $40 bargain at

SpellCatcher for Mac OS X
it works with Photomechanic and other OS X apps and is a lot more than just a simple spell checker. You can define abbreviations (such as byl for byline) and it will expand that into Photo by Jerry Laizure, or any other text you define). |

| ->> Thanks for all of the info.... but then are you cutting and pasting into the SS members caption windows or does it pick up the information from the fields? |

->> So you are asking about how to get that style of caption information into you Sportsshooter member page......
Yes, basically opening the photoshop document or in PhotoMechanic and copy the caption information. Then go to the SS member page and paste the information in the caption field there. Browse and select the image for that slot and upload. Remember, if you are updating your captions in your member page you must reload the jpg file also or the caption will not take.
Is this what you were getting at? |

->> That was it Jack thank you. I am off to Camerabits to order PM for my Mac, it looks very handy. I had been using an older version of Fotostation. Which I like very much.
Thank you everyone for the information |

| ->> Yeah, I think you will like PM. It is pretty slick and getting better and better all the time. Check out the slideshow function of the OSX version of PM. Great little tool for going in there and viewing the images on a disk or in a folder. |
