->> I just got the driver...but the reader doesn't seem to "fit" very well. I have to PUSH it into the slot and hold it there for it to recognize the card reader. So it appears as if the reader works...but I'm not gonna hold the damn thing.
Also, there's no indicator light on this version to show me of the card is actually being read.

| ->> I've got two of the older design. The work fine with my 17" MacBook Pro, but the card reader usually doesn't catch on the first try. Why do they change stuff that works fine? |

->> Walter...I've always had that issue (not catching on the first try), but I recently bent a few pins inside it so I needed a new one.
Arrrrgh

->> Walter,
If it works fine, why do we buy a new one? |

->> The original version of this card reader wasn't UDMA-capable, while the second version is (USB-bus). It would not surprise me if they ultimately upgraded it to utilize the PCI-e (full potential of ExpressCard interface) bus. They similarly upgraded the ExpressCard 54 version.
But the Verbatim ExpressCard 34 reader is still the fastest. :) |

->> Chuck-
Where can I find the Verbatim ExpressCard 34 to purchase? It doesn't seem to be widely available (plus I'm in a hurry to get out he door) |

->> Here's a link to 94 places you can buy it - although I will admit that it's been "deactivated" at Newegg.com, where I bought mine:

->> Any continued thoughts on this? I just started reading about it, and it seems most don't like the card, and it seems flakey.
Not many options around for Express 34 and Mac it seems. I have FW800 reader, but the Express Card just seems more convenient? This will be used on the new 2009 MBP17. |

| ->> I've got a Siig 34 card that I bought from Micro Center outside Chicago for $30. I'm using it with a Lenovo S10 netbook so as far as hardware comparison I can't say with your MBP, but I've been impressed with the download speed. I did 1.5gb of MKIII images to the hd in 2 minutes. And its built on the PCI architecture as opposed to the slower USB 2.0, don't know what MBP uses. It's the first one I've used, havent had a slot before. The build quality is ok, I wouldn't say it's delicate, but I wouldn't throw it just in my bag, I've got it in a hard case to protect it. If you go to their site you can check it, there are drivers I installed, think there might be for Mac also. Might be something else to consider. |

->> Hey...I just tried to use the Verbatim ExpressCard 34 reader and it crashed my mac (10.6.3) every single time I insert it...
Anyone else have this problem? New driver? |
