->> I have a licensed copy of Photo Mechanic that is installed on my desktop MAC G5.
If I copy it to a flash drive, can it be installed onto a PC I just got? (there is no CD burner/player and the one I have is firewire, and the PC is only USB) |

->> Hi Debra.
Kent is absolutely correct: Download the Windows version - the Mac version won't work on a PC at all. Here's the download page:
http://www.camerabits.com/site/downloads.html
Your license uses the same code for both Mac and Windows, so after downloading and installing, you'll enter the same info as you have on your Mac. And unlike the Mac version, you can't simply drag the application into your app folder, it's a whole different installation on Windows, so you have to use their install file that you download.
It should work like a charm - I use both without a problem.
Cheers!

->> thanks everyone...it worked by going to their site and downloading the version I have
another question-this small PC doesn't have a firewire and my card burner is firewire. Can anyone recommend a USB card reader? How about an external burner that uses USB as well. |

->> ...or, am I better off finding a firewire to USB cable for the LaCie I have?
Any brand cable I should look for? |

->> Hi Debra, I am glad it is working for you now.
I am a fan of the SanDisk 12 in 1 card reader. They are about $30 and work great, I have 2 of them and 1 SanDisk firewire reader.
Take care, Larz |

->> Hi Debra.
Almost any USB card reader will work. There are probably dozens of reviews online regarding speed of file transfer, etc. I have a SanDisk USB reader as a backup to my SanDisk Firewire reader. USB and Firewire are two different animals, so there is no "adapter" for making one into another (that I'm aware of). Check out what Rob Galbraith has to say about it if you want to split hairs...
So as far as your second question goes, you are probably better off getting a nice new USB drive IMHO. Brand? Well, anything that is reputable, (stick with brand names) with a warranty, etc.
Here's one:

I'm sure there are others. Some require AC, some can work off the USB port for power.

->> Larz,
I have that one but it seems so much slower than my firewire one-how does it work for you? |
