Need diagnostic help
Rich Obrey, Photographer

->> I am seeing a strange problem with images from a 1DS Mark II that I just purchased in used condition.

I have posted a portfolio with some sample images. The problem is the light band at the top of each frame.

The photos have not been processed except to reduce them in size for posting.

At first, I thought it had something to do with shooting back-lit subjects, but the band is still there when I moved to a front-lit position.

If you have some experience with this issue, I'd appreciate some suggestions.

I purchased the camera from a reputable vendor, and I've got another week to send it back if I have a problem.

Thanks for any and all assistance,
Rich Obrey

->> I'd guess it's a shutter problem. Search the message board for things like "blown shutter" and try to find some sample pics to compare with.

->> That's my opinion as well. One of your blades is sticking or slow allowing more exposure. Basically it's a blown shutter. Check the actuations. Mine blew at 177K.

->> Thanks for the quick help. A Canon rep just looked at the posted photos with me, and agrees with your diagnosis.

The light band goes away at slower shutter speeds, suggesting a sticky something in the shutter assembly.
