Canon Mark IV Sightings?

| ->> Any buzz on the arrival timeframe for the Mark IV (or whatever they call the Mark III replacement)? I am of wishful thinking that Canon will test the next version 100 different ways to avoid the AF issues on the III and add meaningful features that Nikon has had such as multi image capture, an in camera crop feature and a few others. I am attending Photo Plus Expo in NYC and thought mayge their launch would coincide. |

->> Gees, the Mk 3 just came out, and you now want a Mk IV?
No one is satisfied anymore. |

->> My 1D Mk I and 1Ds Mk I still produce great images that meet the majority of my clients needs....and I like 3fps
What do you want in a 1D MkIV?
Hell the 1D Mk I shoots 1/500 E-TTl flash synch and 1/2000 on a Pocket Wizard easily! |

->> Mere speculation is harmless, but I would assume something is coming eventually. It has been well over a year since the Mark IIIs came out...and B&H doesn't even have it in stock.
Foreshadowing? Eh. |

->> I would like the flash sync BACK to where it was on the ID MK1, as well as the 1/16,000 shutter.
A devoted microprocessor just for the autofocus, and video and the ability to have a full frame and crop frame
Hell, lets have touch screen and built in wireless upload and download like the iphone too!
And canon software to edit in RAW what is done on the video like the RED camera does!
Just to name a few
As far as MP goes, don't care, would rather have a better analog to digital converter for the signal (do you know the Google Earth camera is only 1 megapixel? But has a superior converter?) and the the five color chip would be a great time to unveil! I know people in San Jose who have worked on it, just not on consumer cameras! So get to it!!! |

| ->> I'm sure most people would be perfectly happy with a Mark IV that was basically a Mk III with the Mk IIN AF. |

| ->> It'll be the MkIIIn, it will have a totally redesigned AF system and a megapixel bump, and it will do video. They will announce it sometime around April of next year. And once again you'll get to spend $5,000... |

->> Steven why do I need mk4? I can speak only for myself, not for others, but personally, I need to get another camera. I'm not too keen of getting used 1dmk2(n) in perfect condition, 4 years old and only 10.000 actuations (if you believe what's written on Ebay). On the other side, I can't get new mk2 anymore, and to be honest, I have bad feeling with mk3. There was just too much trouble with it, but obviously I won't have much other chances then bite into this and hope for best.
And I agree with Gavin. I would be perfectly happy with mk4 which would be mk3 with AF of mk2. Well... I would be happy with new mk2 already :) |

->> Primoz,
100k shots fires......less than US$300 gets you a whole new shutter! (my bodies have all had multiple shutter replacements at over 1mil clicks since 2002) |

->> Steve --
Your post brings up an interesting point. If clients are not driving the need to upgrade (larger files for example), and most of your work is used for newpaper, web sites, and prints 8x10 and under ... what motivation would one have to upgrade if the cameras they use are getting the job done?
Like most, I love anything new (if it works) patricularly if it improves the quality of my work and is something my clients are willing to pay for through increased hourly rates, print prices, and other fees. At the moment none of my clients are willing to do that.
$300 for a shutter and another $200 for a mirror box (if needed). For the price of one new 1D Mark whatever I could replace the shutter and mirror box in the three 1D MarkIIN's I own three times each.
Think I'll save/spend my money on things that will actually make me a better photographer ... SS Boot Camp for example. |
