Proof sheets with Photo Mech and an HP 2015

->> I bought an HP 2015 earlier this year. I am trying to print contact sheets with it. I use Photo Mechanic and the prints are just coming out dark, muddy, and overall crappy.

I have played with settings on both the software and the machine. Still, I cannot get crisp images.

Does anyone have suggestions? Would more memory help in the printer? Not sure if that would make a difference.

I used to whip these things off with a laserjet 1000, but that doesn't work on a Mac.

->> You don't say for sure, but I'm guessing you're on a Mac because of your last sentence.

It would help a lot if you gave a more detailed description of what you've tried, including the settings and color-shifts you're seeing.

What paper are you using? Is it photo glossy, matte, coated ink-jet paper? HP ink?

Also, what camera body do you use, what color-profile is it set to, are those profiles being preserved when PhotoMechanic ingests the images or are you overwriting with something else....

The devil is in the details when printing, so the more information you give the better suggestions we can give you.

I used an HP for a while, but gave up because I couldn't ever get it to output a decent photo, and switched to using Canon printers. Even with those I had to fiddle with drivers for a while, but eventually got them dialed in, and now get what's on the display, or close enough, for proofs.

->> Can you get a good print out of the printer from other software?

What I do to print proof sheets is send them to the "Microsoft Document Image Writer", which is set to be my default printer, and that brings up a save dialog so I save it along with the images. Then it opens in the document viewer and I print from that, rather than straight from PM.

I do it so I have an electronic copy of the proof sheet, and force of habit, but it could be used as a work-around too. Maybe there's an equivelant thing you can do with a Mac, like saving it to a PDF and printing from that.
