D300 Mirror Issue

| ->> I purchased a D300 last November and have gotten a lot of use out of it. Within the past week or so my mirror has begun to lock up. At first I thought this only occured when I would burst fire, however it now happens when I take single frames. The problem doesn't happen all the time but it still occurs when on assignment periodically. Has anyone experienced this before? Its rather annoying looking through the viewfinder from time to time and seeing black. Any ideas? Could the shutter be on its way out? |

| ->> Max how many actuations on it? Do you fire lots of bursts? I had the springs let go on a D2Xs last year. Had about 80K on them. When the camera came back I noticed a scratch or rub mark on a shutter leaf. Emailed Nikon to let them know and a week later the shutter was toast. |

->> I've had a very similar problem with a D3. Mirror locks up, Err on top LCD, turning camera on/off removing lens etc has no impact - it just suddenly decides to work again. Sometimes the camera will take a black exposure, sometimes none. If that sounds like your problem, drop me an email directly. I don't care who you are, I will only reply directly.
I won't post the solution here, I did so earlier in the year with a D300 problem, and the admin here were pretty rude about it. |

->> Derrick,
I've never seen "the admin" on SportsShooter be "rude" about anybody posting a solution to a technical problem.

| ->> Sometimes bluntness is mistaken for rudeness. I'll say I've been "encouraged" to move a tech topic to the Equipment Q&A section - which, aside from the fact that the section is separately sponsored, I've never understood the purpose of. Seems to me you'd want to share a tech solution with everyone, not push it into email. |
