Software Help
Chris Stanfield, Photo Editor

->> Friends,
We are in the process of training reporters to use cameras. We want them to be as self-sufficient as possible, which means that we'd like for them to have software that allows IPTC information to be embedded into the pictures and then sent via FTP. I know that Photo Mechanic does all of these things and we're exploring the purchase of several new licenses for reporters to use.

But....

Do any of you know of any freeware programs, or cheaper alternatives to PM that may allow us to accomplish the same thing? Reporters all use MAC laptops.

I'd recommend using the same platform for everybody.

->> Graphic Converter is around $35 and will allow your reporters to enter IPTC info and tweak photos slightly. As far as I know it doesn't have an FTP feature, but you can find plenty of free FTP programs for Macs. We use Cyber Duck.

->> This from the Photo Mechanic Web Site:
"For information regarding any educational, bulk, or other discount pricing, or to purchase upgrades, please contact sales@camerabits.com or call 1-503-547-2800."

So you may be able to get multiple licenses at a reduced rate.
