->> Steve,
It works to an extent, you have to be close within about 50ft is my experience, if you can have your computer close to you somehow it can be good the images transfer at about 2-3 seconds per image. The setup is extremely simple I had it working in about five minutes. I used it in a mark II both with the CF adaptor and without using just the SD card and using a regular CF card to record the images as well.
If I had a wireless card for my laptop with Verizon service or something and you could shoot on site sending the images directly to your card it can be worthwhile. Honestly I have not gotten much use out of it yet, but I think future software upgrades and partnerships could make it worth having, currently you can setup the card to send images directly to some photo services, such as flickr, photobucket, facebook and others I'm hoping for fuure upgrades that allow for better customization on where images can be uploaded, such as a personal site, saving the time of downloading the images to a computer and uploading them to the web, the card can do it in one shot that's where it can be a good investment. If you can spare the extra $100+ give it a try, one area I think it could be useful is youth sports, I have not applied the card to that type of work myself though. Good Luck |

| ->> It allows you to put the SD card into a special CF card so the Eye-Fi SD card can be used in camera's that use CF cards only such as the Canon Xt, 30D and 40D models. The CF adapter was recently released you can buy the Eye-Fi or the Eye-Fi w/ CF adapter, they also sell the CF adapter seperately just visit the Eye-Fi website. |

| ->> I did visit their site, and damned if I can find anything about a CF card adapter. I've been anxiously watching for news of some kind of CF support ever since they announced the thing. I believe you, I just wish I could find where to buy one. |

| ->> Chuck, I looked at their site, they've changed it. I bought the Eye-Fi directly through the company, at the time they had a page that showed it, they had links to the Eye-Fi card, card w/ adapter and adapter by it self, I will look and see if I can find it for you. |

->> I have the Eye-Fi... it's fine for family snapshots and stuff, but in the context of sports photography, I think you'll be disappointed. The problem is that it is not a high-speed card... it takes much longer to write files to it than the high-end cards we all usually use. You can take pictures fast enough, but they take forever to clear our of the buffer. And for the chimpers, you have to wait a while before you can review your snaps on screen.
Also, I don't know if it is clear on the Eye-Fi site, but you have to have a Wi-Fi router for it to work... you can't go straight from camera to computer. And you can just use any available Wi-Fi signal... you have to actually setup the card via the computer to use the signal in question. Having a wireless modem card in a computer won't get the job done.
I have used it both with the CF adapter in my 20D and without in the SD slot of my MarkIII. It does work, but it doesn't really help me much. I can upload photos to the computer faster myself with a card reader and I almost always edit before uploading to the web.
Now, the person it DOES work great for is my aunt who likes to just take the pics, bring the camera home, turn it on and then have everything show up both in iPhoto and on Snapfish while she cooks dinner. Then she orders her 4x6s from Snapfish for scrapbooking with limited to no editing/cropping.
One of these days, I am going to get a pocket cam for snapshots... when the big heavy SLR is too much. I'll likely use the Eye-Fi in that exclusively to facilitate sharing photos with other family members. |
