->> I'm trying out Extensis Portfolio 6 for managing our large database and I want to import all of the Photoshop Caption data into Porfolio as Keywords in order to aid searching strings. How can I do this without to much trouble?
thanks |

| ->> It's easy. Just drag and drop your folders of photos into your Portfolio catalog. The File Info field in Photoshop files transfers over and then you can easily and quickly search for photos by searching the "description" field in the search window in Portfolio. We use Portfolio at work and it works great. |

->> Scott, thanks for the quick reply.
I see that now, but for some reason it only works on files I've worked on in photoshop, photos that I've captioned only with Fotostation don't come into portfolio. Any ideas? |

->> Jaren,
Portfolio must not be able to read the IPTC info on images captioned in Fotostation. Try running a batch script in Photoshop to open the Fotostation files and resave them as Photoshop Tiffs or Jpegs or whatever you use. Then try importing them again into Portfolio. Maybe this will work. |

->> Scott,
An unrelated question...assuming you are knowledgable on Portfolio.
Why is it that it takes so long for me to import my image files from my Canon 1d? I use Iview and love it, but the mag I shoot for insisted that I send them Portfolio catalogs.
Recently I had to import 1700 images (jpegs) and it took over 12 hours to import them all....really sux. |

| ->> Worth, are you using a fast system or an older computer? Not sure why 1D JPEG images would take so long. I recently re-cataloged our entire digital collection (30,000 images) and it only took 3-4 hours. I was using an 867 Mhz G4. Our JPEGs were created on Nikons. |

->> I have imported all of our digital files into Portfolio 6 and the IPTC info copies fine from Photo Mechanic.... haven't tried Fotostation.
It does seem to take a while to catalog a large batch of files, but it's to an Apple X-Serv and the network isn't the quickest way to work. I ususally let it run when I leave for the day. |
