->> Does anyone know if you have to upgrade from Tiger to the Leopard for Aperture 2 to process D3 files?
I really didn't want to upgrade OS just to get RAW capability for the Aperture update. And its sad that I have to pay to use Aperture with a new camera, when Adobe included the update for free in both Lightroom and CS3. |

->> Mike,
No, 10.4.11 works with at least a 1.25 ghz G4 processor. The new features say just about everything is faster.

->> Scott,
I guess what I am asking is that I know that I can run Aperture 2.0 with my intel MAC, but my MAC still has Tiger.
So while I might be able to run Aperture 2.0, will I be able to open RAW files from the D3, or will I have to upgrade to Leopard to get the RAW support that Apple typical includes with OS updates (like the update yesterday), or is Apple going to provide (not announced yet) an update for Tiger to allow for RAW support of the new files, or does Aperture have it built in so it is not OS dependent. |

->> Sorry Mike, my bad... the wording doesn't make it terribly clear how they plan to update 10.4.11, but this is what it says on the raw support page
* Cameras and camera backs followed by an asterisk require Aperture 2 with Mac OS X Tiger v10.4.11 or Mac OS X Leopard v10.5.2 or later.
Nikon
D3*
D300*

No the serial number hasn't been fixed.
Just downloaded the trial version after received Apple's e-mail.
Put in the key code. Software tells me it is not a valid number.
Apple is getting to be a lot like Nikon's software key codes. ARGH. |

See I'm so frustrated I'm making typos.
I went round in round this morning about Nikon's Camera Control Pro 2. Finally simply ordered the box version. Now, Apple is doing the same thing. |

->> Ok Ok
Just went to the e-mail Apple sent me with the trail code for Aperture 2.
It has a link for the download, so I tried it instead of directly from their web site.
Guess what?
The link downloaded a trial of Aperture 1.5.6, not version 2
ARGH - right from APPLE'S e-mail.
Go figure.
Wake me when version 3 come out. Back to Photo Mechanic. |

->> Wow....I just viewed the updates on Apple.com. Tethered shooting straight into Aperture. I am a big Lightroom fan but I think Adobe just got their butt kicked. Come on Lightroom 2.0!
I am about to load it onto my laptop and play. |

->> Lightroom is still faster - for me.
That's on my 15" MacBook Pro 2,2ghz, 2GB Ram and the files on an external FW800 drive.
I imported three 10MP Raw files for testing. Lightroom (already filled with my current 2008 photos) is faster and way more responsive.
Having Aperture2 on a MacPro might be a total different issue. |

Should be up to speed soon. |

| ->> Christopher - Simple fix... You just need to rename the current version in your Applications folder (I added a 1 on the end of the name), then install the trial. It won't install over top of the current version, thus the need to rename. |

I renamed my old version Aperture (old) and then I was able to launch Aperture 2
Hope this helps.

->> I know there's a lot to like about Aperture 2 and I'm still a fan but . . .
STILL no direct support for camera sound files?!?!?!?
This feature is only put on professional cameras because only professionals use it. Aperture is designed for the professional.
Import the sound file into the Aperture library, put a microphone icon in the corner of photos that have sound files, click on it to play.
How freeking hard is that?
To be fair, last time I checked LR didn't have this feature either. |

->> I've been sent a message saying LR does have camera sound support (in the metadata panel) Either I was looking at an old LR or didn't see it.
I stand corrected. (about Lightroom, not Aperture) |

| ->> I spent the day on Tuesday playing with Aperture 2 and my initial enthusiasm has cooled. No DNG support and a proprietary library where edits can not be copied to sidecar files. (Someone correct me on these if I missed them.) Deal breakers to me! The interface is much improved over the previous version I tested but it still doesn't seem very intuitive. Tethered support is cool and I may use Aperture for capture software with my Nikon. Except for that, for me, LR stills wins out. |

| ->> I have worked with Aperture 2 a little more and I stand corrected on a couple of things. But there is still a lot I don't quite get! You can create "master" files with xmp sidecar files but why can't these simply be attached to the original raw files and avoid creating extra files? I still am not clear on the DNG support. It appears that you have to use an action that uses the Adobe DNG Convertor to create the DNGs. Is this correct? Why not have DNG as a choice in the export dialog? Again, please correct me if I am wrong. |

->> I do not get this in Aperture.
You can custom design a book page , but you can't export it as a JPEG/TIF to be printed! You can only output as a PDF which does most people little to no good!
What is the point of having a great customizable album creation tool if you can't export it to make a non-Apple album? They target wedding photogs with this feature, but I don't know any wedding photogs who use Apple books. |

| ->> Steve - you can open any PDF in Photoshop - and convert it to JPEG/TIF etc. rather easily. It would be nice to have it export in other formats but that would lead to inferior results w/ text. |

->> Vince
Thanks for the info. I knew I could open it in PShop, but as you said, it would be nice to be able to export as something else. I don't use text in my books, so it would not be an issue for me.
Thanks again |
