->> Since I went on a rant in another thread...
How many U.S. papers out there are placing advertising banners on their once sacred front page? I know many other countries have done it for years.
This started here last week: http://galleries.daveeinsel.com/TX_HC.pdf
I'd also really like to know the number ($) that would cause a publisher to consider allowing it. |

->> I have seen it on a few front pages in the last few years here - I have seen it, up to and including ads being HALF of inside section fronts in places.
Glad to know the Chron is still trying to squeeze the stone... |

->> The small newspaper I shoot for recently started running adds on the front page. The entire 1st column (of 6) and across the bottom of the page is filled with 1 13/16" x 1" adds. 25 total on the front page. In addition, the top left corner also has a triangular add.
Only 66.3% of the total print area on the front page is news. The remaining 33.7% is header, footer and adds.
Good thing nothing important ever happens here of there would be no room to cover it. Todays headline "Corn Field Meth Lab Nets Man 20 Years". Most days its either a corn field or a meth lab. Today was unique in that both are covered in the same article. |

->> That's our Chronice!
off topic- Still not as bad as changing the design of the online version again...after you figure out where everything is located. Too much clutter! |

| ->> What I've seen is not so much a printed ad on page one, but a sticky note type ad attached to the front page. |

->> All five of the weekly papers I work for started in about a year ago. But as of late I have seen the Ad's getting bigger. 2 weeks ago the front page add was 2x3 in size on the bottom right hand corner.
It's not something I favor, but if that front page ad secures my co-workers or myself a job then so be it. |

| ->> It is not as new as most think. Years ago...a good 25 years ago when I worked for the old News-American (Hearst) in Baltimore they started running ads on A-1 near the end of their life. It was usually about a 1 to 2 inch strip ad across the top or bottom, depending on what they could sell. |
