If anyone wants to take a look at my new [still under construction] portfolio and give me some comments, it would be nice. Hey, I don't want to cry at SSA V portfolio reviews :)

Words cannot describe how much I want to be in So Cal.

Don't get me started SSA V, I already have enough trouble getting to sleep.

I feel like a 7 yr old at Xmas.

t-minus 33 days, 23 hours and 35 minutes (I get their Tues.)

So Cal will be a much needed reprieve and an amazing opportunity to devote all my time to photography without the interventions of class and work!

As a member of the first SSA class, I can tell you newbies to be prepared for a fun time and tons of great information. I can remember how excited I was.

Have a great time. It's currently 15 degrees here with snow on the way. :o|

Looking forward to meeting you all.

->> The BEST shooting schedule we have ever been able to put together, without a doubt.

The diversity and number of sports to shoot is fabulous ... and cannot be matched.

Men's and women's basketball, baseball, a major college softball tournament, a major college track & field meet, men's volleyball (featuring nationally ranked teams), water polo, tennis ... sessions at a local boxing gym and the always popular beach volleyball!

And the faculty ... Matt Brown, Donald Miralle, Michael Goulding, Wally Skalij, Sean Haffey plus video guru Myung J. Chun and yours truly...

Wow!

Thanks to our supporters Canon USA, Samy's Camera and Think Tank Photo!

I have a couple of cool announcements coming up for all of you SSA V participants ... so stay tuned!

All you folks attending, be watching your inboxes for important emails in the upcoming weeks. Get caught up on sleep before the workshop. Start thinking of questions that you want to ask. When the workshop start,s eat a banana every morning and maybe bring some Airborne to take on Sunday. If you don't use a browser application, get one! Don't be the one person sorting photos on deadline with Windows file previewer. Don't forget rain gear because you never know. And leave that ego at home! Yeehaw, it'll be fun.

Aloha!

After watching what the program can do, there is no doubt that Jordan is right. WOW, huge difference between Bridge and Lightroom. For all you students out there check with your University bookstore. Mine has Lightroom for $99 as well as some of the other browser apps.

->> I have used all three of those mentioned, Photo Mechanic, Aperture, and Lightroom, and have found PM to be the most efficient and usable of the programs. Photo Mechanic has such a terrific feature set, from the no nonsense IPTC system and FTP'ing built in, to the full screen previewing. I like the way Aperture works with the Mac OS too but it still is not as seamless as Photo Mechanic in my opinion.

Hope this helps!

->> Yes, PM is THE industry standard for working in the field.

And it is the recommended browsing/editing/uploading application for the Sport Shooter Academy.

Workshop participants can use whatever software they are most comfortable with, but PM is certainly what most of us involved in this business ... and this workshop ... use on a daily basis.

(Like tonight's Super Bowl game in Phoenix... a vast majority of the newspapers were using PM to edit, caption and xmit their images.)

We will have detailed workflow handout for participants and more than likely a digital workflow class on Wednesday afternoon on the opening day of SSA V.

Mahalo!

->> Mitch Stringer, I use Aperture for archiving. Nothing on deadline. It's just too slow and clunky in my opinion. It's a fantastic archiving tool.

Anyone looking to speed up their workflow, I'd highly recommend Photo Mechanic. Build a solid workflow around the app and you can save a LOT of time. The workflow handout will outline an effective deadline workflow. FYI, the workflow handout for participants is built around PM (but concepts can be used in other apps).

Aloha!

->> One more piece of advice for anyone thinking of upgrading their software before SSA V. Do it well before, so you have time to learn the program inside and out.

At SSA IV I had been using Lightroom for quite a while and was comfortable with it. I updated it a few days before the seminar and everything seemed the same. Then during the workshop one of the instructors was reviewing my work and helping me crop photos and I couldn't figure out how to change the aspect ratio.
