->> I am posting this for a friend of mine who has a Canon 20D that won't stop firing. As soon as you turn it on, the camera begins to fire off shots and won't stop.
We have tried removing the batteries and letting it sit for 30 minutes. Changing the lens, taking off the grip and nothing works. It even fires when there is not a lens attached to the body.
Of course the famous error 99 comes with this problem.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be and how to resolve it.
Thanks

| ->> This is a common problem with the 20D. The exact same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. It's the shutter. It cost me around $200 to repair. Good luck! |

| ->> It is shutter failure. It happened to my 20D one month out of warranty. |

->> I also have a 20D with a shutter that needs to be replaced. I have been corresponding with Mark Fortin at Midstate Camera Repair about it.
Mark quoted me a price of $359 +/- to replace the shutter block and the SQ assembly. I mentioned that I had seen quotes of $200 in other SS posts, and he said that he certainly could replace just the shutter assembly for about $200, but "found over the last year or so they do not seem to last." He also said "The SQ unit has the main motor on it and really wears out. The motor has brushes inside that wear."
So I think I'm going to take his advice and replace the SQ assembly as well. Midstate has gotten rave reviews here in the past and now I have no reason to doubt the advice Mark offered. |

kick that sucker to the curb, it's toast. i have one that is happily collecting a year plus worth of dust.
hooray for shutters that fail... mine pooped out at just over 37k.
don't waste your money on getting the shutter replaced.
