OT - Brain Surgery Me

->> Yes it is true, I find out this morning if the surgery will be tomorrow or Thursday. Sooner the better is all I can say. My concern besides the obvious, is how soon can I start shooting again?
I went to the emergency room and then was admitted in the hospital on Friday. As I laid in the bed the light on the TV bothered me so I buried my head and listened to the HY-VEE Shootout basketball tournament visioning me at certain point courtside during the game taking photographs.
After I was dismissed on Sat. I asked my friend what she wanted to do, well in her mind there was no place but home she was taking me, she turned to me and asked “And why do you ask that question?”
I just laughed and replied “Well there is the Hy-Vee Basketball Shootout still going on, and I do have my camera with us.” Needless to say we went home and I was ordered to rest.
We shaved the head yesterday in preparation – Told Kona we might as well have some fun with it all. Recovery time is 1-2 months, with me being in the hospital about 4-5 days.
Kona has started a blog to keep family and friends updated here is that link: http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nadineredd
Keep us all in your thoughts and I will post the day of surgery in a few hours.
As many know me I am always looking for a project, so my brain surgery will also be a project titled “Through your eyes” I am having my friends that visit me photograph what they see and after I am home getting better I am going to lay and look through all the work my friends have done and make it a project in their honors.
It is going to be amazing just wait lol. |

->> Wow! Good luck and my prayers are with you and your family. I hope you have a safe and speedy recovery!
My grandfather had brain surgery a couple of years ago and he recovered much faster than they had anticipated. A co-worker's brother recently had brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. Again, he's doing much better and is recovering much faster than anticipated. |

->> Nadine,
Approach it like a shoot. Be ready, get there early and see it through. In this case, you are your client so I know you'll be on top of your game. My advice is to use the surgery time to imagine your "perfect shoot". When you wake up and get back on your feet from recovery, make that your goal to get out and make your imagined shoot happen. Best wishes. You'll do great. |

->> Hello it is me finally...... I see this as great progress that I am able to sit at a computer for a short period of time now.
I am trying to be patience but pushed it yesterday. I just so wanted to feel the camera in my hand again. Big mistake..... the pain was so intense that Kona finally took the camera from me and helped me back in the house. I told her next time I would use my mono pod so I would not have to feel the weight. I always laughed at me using a point and shoot camera butI would love to have one now so I could still photograph something :)
I can not thank the SS community enough for your kind words and prayers. Mark who I work with at DSI said he was so moved by the post at caringbridge.org from this community.
I miss photographing so much and fear that the pain I now suffer might be permanent. I keep telling Kona it CAN NOT be permanent if it is it I am not sure what I will do to be able to photograph again. Going outside yesterday and trying to photograph has put major concern in my mind.
I keep complaning to her that I am missing the entire basketball season, but hope to be back up and going to be able to photograph at state for Bob Hovey with rivals.com.
My zipperhead is healing nicely though, no CSF leaking or infection that is the Dr.'s major concern right now.
Off to lay down now. Again I can not thank everyone enough for your support. |

->> Next time I complain about what I think is a dumb grip and grin assignment, I'll keep your comments here in mind.
I will tell you that I had a non-arterial bleed a number of years back while I was running and, after a week in the hospital, couldnt get out of a chair.
Then walking across the room was a bear, then walking down the block was impossible, then even thinking of running again felt like a dream. Years later I am back running half-marathons (poorly I might add).
SO, hang in there and be patient. |

->> {{NADINE}}}
Welcome back.
Don't rush it...Basketball WILL always be there. If you miss this season, you'll get it next.
Or maybe...we can even arrange a sportsshooter.com basketball game just for you to shoot!
Trust me, all of us here KNOW you will shoot again. You have determination, passion, will, love.
Rest up with Kona and your family.
I have been reading your journal daily and let me tell you..there have been LOUD shouts of "WOOOOO" coming out of my computer room. Two times my husband asked "what's up" and I said "Nadine went outside today" "Nadine put up a post on sportshooter and his response was "that's terrific."
As everyone said-be patient. I know it's hard but the camera and sports and everything else will be waiting for you.
And in case you don't realize it-you are a TRUE inspiration.
Wishing you all the best in 2008.

->> Nadine, when you get all better you are going to have to write an email to my wife. For the past week, she has walked in on my reading your journal and she keeps asking "Who is this woman?" Ha Ha.
(Actually, she works for a hospital and is very interested in the journal system you guys are using. They are looking to install a similar--or identical--system in their hospital.)
Hang in there. It is obvious that you are coming along. Never as fast as the patient wants, but every inch forward is an inch away from the worst. |
