->> Wendi,
Mike Stone has graciously generated this very valuable script.
http://stopactionsports.com/extract.php
You can read the instructions in the release notes.
Once you generate the .txt file, save it to your hard drive, and point Photomechanic to it to generate the names, etc.

->> Kevin, or anyone else
Are you having any trouble getting the NFL extract to work? I've tried two different browsers on Mac and IE on a PC and I can't get anything but a file with each of the teams names in it. The file comes back looking like this:
t Tennessee Titans
c Carolina Panthers
Can get the extract to work on baseball, NCAA or NHL, but not NFL.
Thanks in advance

You all are correct, there was a problem with the nfl script. I went in to detail on the other thread, but basically, I think it is working correctly now but always look the file over before using.

There are some issues with the rosters on NCAA football too, since there are some players listed that were on squads last year, wrong positions, based upon last year too. Can you check on that too? |

->> Steve,
I've run into this a couple times also, but this is a function of the accuracy of ESPN's roster, not Mike's page-scraping routine. The file his Web page generates is only as good as ESPN's data.
As Mike said up-thread, "always look the file over before using". I normally use the roster on the school's site as being the correct one, and even then I check it against what is handed out before the game. If there are any discrepancies, I edit the TXT file and re-input it into Photo Mechanic.
From the Department of Redundancy Department, I also check my captions against the roster handed out at the game before I submit images.
Just to be sure... |

Well said!
Dennis,
Well said! Wait, I already said that.
FYI, just added NBA. The pages were so similar to the new NFL pages it was a relatively easy fix.
Thanks for all the kind comments. Glad the site is of benefit.

->> Mike,
You are right, your work has been impeccable, and the differences were what I found prior to each NCAA Football game vs. what ESPN posted and what the NCAA team had as their actual roster too. I think the teams need to get their updates to ESPN so what you are doing works better, IMHO!
Can you get all the NCAA sports included too? Since you added NBA can we get BB, Hockey, etc.? Sorry to ask for so much, NOT! Whatever you give us I'm happy to work with.
In your debt,
Steve |

->> Hey Steve,
You are worse then my wife. This weekend she wanted me to clean the home office and as soon as I did she asked when I would get to mowing the lawn. :)
As far as other sports, I have considered men's basketball but doing NCAA is very time consuming because I have to setup the tables of colleges and the numeric codes ESPN assigns to each...plus since I shoot so little college basketball and because the rosters are small and easy to create from scratch, it just hasnt seemed worth the effort.
As far as college hockey, are those rosters even online?

You need to change the NBA drop down box to say Charlotte Bobcats, not Charlotte Hornets.
Thanks for making this script available to everyone - it is a HUGE time saver!

I actually relied on it so much I often never even checked to see if the names were correct (ooppps my bad. I hope none of my editors see this) jason IS the man. I owe you the drink of your choice. thanks...our job gets better and better...and easier!! |

Hello Patrick,
You said "What version Did code replacements start in? I have
4.4.3.3 and cannot seem to find it...
Am I missing something?"
Code Replacement is in version 4.4.3.3, but to access it you
need to open up the Preferences dialog, click on the IPTC/XMP
tab and then click on the "Code Replacements..." button. The
rest of the functionality is very similar to how it is done in 4.5.x.
HTH,
-Kirk
