| ->> I'm looking to purchase a few batteries for my 1D Mark III and was curious what people have been using for aftermarket batteries and the performance they have been getting from them. I will probably stick with Canon however I am curious what options are available and peoples opinions of the aftermarket counterparts. |

->> As far as I know, it's the same battery as the Nikon D2 series. I've been using a few Delkin equivalents for 2.5 years in a D2x. The Delkins don't tell you when they need refereshing via the camera. Once they get down to 50% on the camera meter after a full charging, it's time to refresh them on the charger.
The Delkins have lasted 1,200 frames for a whole day of shooting. No problems with the Delkin. |

->> Delkin is a good brand, but.....
My D2X (Was) a $5K Body, I didn't want to skimp on a battery for a $5K Body!! |

| ->> luke, I've had my mark III's since july and only had to charge the batteries three or four times...and even then they were only at 50% power, at least that's what it feels like. we (the paper) aren't even ordering extra batteries for the Mark III shooters. I mean I was gone a week out of town on assignments (shooting every day) and never came even close to needing a charge. combine that with the fact when you do charge them (you can put two batteries in the charger) it only takes about one to two hours at the most to totally recharge the suckers. amazing. what I do is have a charger in the house and one in my car with my inverter...but they've never gotten low enough for me to have to make an "emergency" charge. |

| ->> I'm not a photo journalist, some of our events put 30K actuations a weekend on our bodys. I MUST have a minimum of 2 extra batteries per body. |

->> Luke,
IMHO, stick to the factory batteries, on my D2X (I have 5) I didn't think the Off Brands were worth the risk of getting a substandard battery or damaging the body. I did take the Risk with my D1X and I was disappointed with the results I got. On my MKIIn I borrowed a off brand and it's OK, but not as good as the factory Battery. |

->> Hi
I never thought I would need an extra battery but, I somehow my battery drained in the camera while traveling so it was a good thing I had an extra battery otherwise I would have been down a body today at the broncos game. all it takes is a camer a left on and a image on the lcd. |

->> They are not the same as the Nikon D2 series batteries.
They look the same, feel the same and probably inside are the exact same battery.
HOWEVER, Canon very conveniently put the contacts on the other side of the battery so they are not interchangeable.
The new batteries are a huge step up in active life from the MKII, but I switched from Nikon D2 series directly to the MKIII so battery life is about the same as what I was used to. |

| ->> You are right George, the Folks that make the batteries for both Nikon and Canon probably changed the contacts on Canon's request so folks couldn't just swap batteries. They are good batteries indeed!! |
